Abstract
A device that, when implanted in the heart, closes the wound and complies with wall motion (i.e., expands and contracts with the myocardium).
Claims15
A surgical anchor, comprising:
- a distal end tapered to a distal tip configured to pierce tissue;
- a flexible stem integrally connected to, and extending proximally from the distal end;
- and at least one barb extending proximally and radially outwardly from a base of the distal end to a free end, including a radially exterior surface and a radially interior surface;
- wherein the radially exterior surface of each of the at least one barb includes a plurality of corrugations, each corrugation extending along a radial exterior length of the respective barb in a direction between the free end and the distal tip, each corrugation being continuous from the free end to the base of the distal end, providing a plurality of proximally extending projections at the free end;
- and wherein the flexible stem is flexible with respect to the at least one barb and distal tip.

- and at least one flexible barb extending proximally and radially outwardly from a base of the distal end to a free end, including a radially exterior surface and a radially interior surface, the at least one flexible barb flexible with respect to the stern;
- wherein the radially exterior surface of each of the at least one flexible barb includes a plurality of corrugations, each corrugation extending along a radial exterior length of the respective barb in a direction between the free end and the distal tip, each corrugation being continuous from the free end to the base of the distal end, providing at least one proximally extending projection at the free end to engage with the tissue and resist proximal movement of the anchor, such that at least a portion of a proximal force acting on the anchor is absorbed by the at least one flexible barb, and the at least one projection remains engaged with the tissue.
