Abstract
Some implementations of a table system can include a protective member that is positionable below a table to provide protection to both a table and chairs. The protective member can extend lateral beyond a peripheral edge of the table top, for example, to protect the table and accessory furniture while allowing the table top and the peripheral edge of the table top to remain exposed.
Claims20
A table assembly, comprising:
- a table top defining an exposed table peripheral edge and a lower surface;
- and
- a sub-top positioned entirely below the lower surface of the table top and comprising:
- a table protector body defining an upper body surface abutting the lower surface, a protective peripheral edge, and an angled edge angled inwardly from the protective peripheral edge, wherein the protective peripheral edge comprises a first material that is softer than the table top and extends outwardly beyond the exposed table peripheral edge by a first distance.

A table assembly, comprising:
- a table top having a major upper surface that is bordered by an exposed table peripheral edge, and having a lower surface;
- and
- means for protecting the exposed table peripheral edge from lateral impacts, comprising a table protector body positioned entirely below the lower surface of the table top and defining an upper body surface abutting the lower surface, a protective peripheral edge, and an angled edge angled inwardly from the protective peripheral edge, wherein the protective peripheral edge comprises a first material that is softer than the table top and positioned outwardly beyond the exposed table peripheral edge by a first distance.
A method, comprising:
- abutting a lower surface of a table top to an upper body surface of a protective sub-top of a table assembly positioned entirely below the lower surface, the table top having the lower surface and a major upper surface that is bordered by an exposed table peripheral edge, and the protective sub-top having a table protector body defining the upper body surface, and a protective peripheral edge, and an angled edge angled inwardly from the protective peripheral edge;
- and
- wherein the protective peripheral edge of the protective sub-top comprises a first material that is softer than the table top, and is positioned below the exposed table peripheral edge and extends parallel to and offset from the exposed table peripheral edge such that the table protector edge extends outwardly beyond the exposed table peripheral edge by a first distance.
