Cloud-based scanning systems and remote image processing methods

A document scanning system comprising:

• a cloud computing platform including a cloud application programming interface (API) communicatively coupled to a cloud storage system;
• a scanning device disposed within a single housing and communicatively coupled over a network to the API and the cloud storage system, the scanning device configured to:
• accept paper documents;
• generate a digital image for each document;
• store the digital images;
• upload the digital images directly to the cloud storage system;
• receive, via a user interface module integral with the scanning device, a first user initiated editing command from a user comprising one of page rotation and, page zoom;
• edit a first one of the digital image files in accordance with the user initiated editing command to yield a first edited version of the first digital image;
• transmit the first edited version of the first digital image to the API;
• and
• receive, from the API, and enhanced version of the first edited version of the first digital image:
• wherein the scanner is further configured to:
• prompt the user to request additional edits to a previously edited digital image, and
• prompt the user request a first edit to a previously unedited digital image;
• receive a new thumbnail URL from the API for each additional edit to a previously edited digital image;
• receive a new thumbnail URL from the API for each new edit to a previously unedited digital image;
• display the thumbnail corresponding to the most current version of each digital image file, wherein displaying the most current thumbnail comprises replacing the previously displayed thumbnail with a more recent thumbnail for each displayed digital image file;
• prompt the user to undo an edit;
• and
• in response to a user request to undo an edit, replacing the currently displayed thumbnail with a previously displayed thumbnail for a particular digital image file.
