Generating enhanced digital content using piecewise parametric patch deformations

In a digital medium environment for digital image editing, a system for user-defined piecewise deformation of digital images comprising:

• at least one processor;
• and
• a non-transitory computer memory comprising:
• a two-dimensional digital image;
• and
• instructions that, when executed by the at least one processor, cause the system to:
• provide the two-dimensional digital image for display via a graphical interface of a client device, the graphical interface comprising a dynamic parametric patch split control for generating a plurality of parametric patches on the two-dimensional digital image;
• display, within the graphical interface based on user input via the dynamic parametric patch split control, a dynamic split indicator corresponding to movement of a cursor within the graphical interface;
• in response to user input indicating a split selection, set a user-defined location of a split within the two-dimensional digital image according to a location of the cursor and corresponding to the dynamic split indicator;
• generate, based on the user-defined location of the split, a parametric quilt comprising a plurality of parametric patches corresponding to separate portions of the two-dimensional digital image by dividing the two-dimensional digital image along edges of the plurality of parametric patches at the user-defined location of the split, wherein each parametric patch of the plurality of parametric patches comprises a separate set of parametric curves controlled by a separate set of control points;
• receive an input to modify a first parametric patch of the plurality of parametric patches based on a position of a control point in a first set of control points corresponding to the first parametric patch;
• deform, in response to the input to modify the first parametric patch, a first portion of the two-dimensional digital image based on the modified first parametric patch;
• and
• generate a modified digital image including the deformed first portion.

In a digital medium environment for digital image editing, a computer-implemented method for dynamic piecewise deformation of digital images comprising:

• identifying, by at least one processor, a request to deform a two-dimensional digital image via a dynamic parametric patch split control for generating a plurality of parametric patches on the two-dimensional digital image;
• displaying, within a graphical interface in response to the request, a dynamic split indicator corresponding to movement of a cursor within the graphical interface;
• identifying an input to set a split within the two-dimensional digital image;
• dividing, based on the input to set the split, the two-dimensional digital image into a plurality of separate portions at a location of the cursor and corresponding to the dynamic split indicator;
• generating, for the plurality of separate portions, a parametric quilt comprising a plurality of parametric patches corresponding to the separate portions of the two-dimensional digital image, wherein each parametric patch of the plurality of parametric patches comprises a separate set of parametric curves controlled by a separate set of control points;
• identifying an input to modify a first parametric patch of the plurality of parametric patches via a position of a control point in a first set of control points corresponding to the first parametric patch;
• deforming, in response to the input to modify the first parametric patch, a first portion of the two-dimensional digital image based on the modified first parametric patch;
• and
• generating a modified digital image including the deformed first portion of the plurality of separate portions.
