Abstract
The present invention provides improved processes for extracting and preparing lipids from biological sources for use in pharmaceuticals, nutraceuticals and functional foods.
Claims32
An oral delivery capsule containing from 0.2 to 3.0 grams of a polar lipid-rich fraction extracted from Euphausia superba krill, said fraction comprising a mixture of phospholipid compounds having the following structure:
- wherein R1 and R2 are selected from the group consisting of a fatty acid moiety and —H and R3 is —H or a choline, ethanolamine, inositol or serine moiety,
- wherein said mixture of phospholipid compounds comprising more than about 85% (mol %) choline moieties at position R3 and from about 20% to 40% w/w omega-3 fatty acid moieties,
- wherein said fraction comprises at least 50% phospholipids, and
- wherein said fraction is further characterized in having a conductivity of less than about 300 pS/cm measured in a saturated 60% ethanol solution.
