Abstract
A housing for an instrument such as an endoscopic camera head is provided. A tool for attaching the two parts and a method of its use are also provided.
Claims15
An instrument housing comprising:
- a front enclosure piece having a longitudinal axis that extends in a longitudinal direction, the front enclosure piece comprising an outer member and an inner member projecting in the longitudinal direction from the outer member, the inner member having a first locking area and a second locking area, the first locking area having a first receiving groove that extends in the longitudinal direction from a first end of the inner member, a first ridge, and a first holding groove that extends in the longitudinal direction from the first end of the inner member, the first ridge positioned between the first receiving groove and the first holding groove, and the second locking area having a second receiving groove, a second ridge, and a second holding groove, the second ridge positioned between the second receiving groove and the second holding groove;
- and
- a rear enclosure piece for assembling to the front enclosure piece such that the rear enclosure piece is located rearward of the front enclosure piece in the longitudinal direction, the rear enclosure piece comprising an outer wall, a first end, a second end, a first locking tab and a second locking tab, the first locking tab and the second locking tab each adjacent the first end and spaced apart from one another, the first locking tab disposed to engage the first locking area of the front enclosure piece and the second locking tab disposed to engage the second locking area of the front enclosure piece,
- wherein the first ridge extends in a radial direction relative to the longitudinal axis from the first receiving groove and the first holding groove and the second ridge extends in the radial direction from the second receiving groove and the second holding groove.

An instrument housing comprising:
- a first enclosure piece having a longitudinal axis that extends in a longitudinal direction and including an outer portion and an inner portion, the inner portion having at least one locking portion having a first indent and a second indent adjacent the first indent and separated from the first indent by a ridge having a surface;
- and
- a second enclosure piece for assembling to the first enclosure piece such that the second enclosure piece is located rearward of the first enclosure piece in the longitudinal direction, the second enclosure piece comprising at least one locking member for engagement with the at least one locking portion of the first enclosure piece,
- the first indent of the first enclosure piece sized and shaped to receive the at least one locking member upon engagement of the first enclosure piece and the second enclosure piece, the at least one locking member configured for moving from the first indent over the ridge in a radial direction relative to the longitudinal axis into the second indent to be in a locking position.

A medical instrument comprising:
- a housing comprising:
- a first housing part having a longitudinal axis that extends in a longitudinal direction and comprising a locking portion, the locking portion having a surface generally facing a surface direction and including a receiving groove, a ridge, and a locking groove, the ridge extending upwardly in the surface direction with respect to the locking groove;
- and
- a second housing part for assembling to the first housing part such that the second housing part is located rearward of the first housing part in the longitudinal direction, the second housing part comprising a locking tab, the locking tab sized and shaped to be capable of engaging the surface of the locking portion, to be received in the receiving groove, and to be moved over the ridge in a radial direction relative to the longitudinal axis into the locking groove.
