Abstract
A manufacturing process includes depositing a clad layer having a thickness greater than about 0.5 mm (0.02 in) on a surface of the component by hardfacing, and creating a heat affected zone directly below the clad layer due to the depositing. The heat affected zone may be a region of the component where a lowest hardness is lower than a base hardness of the component below the heat affected zone. The method may also include heat treating the component after the deposition such that the lowest hardness in the heat affected zone is restored to within about 15% of the base hardness of the component.
Claims20
A manufacturing process for a component subject to wear, comprising:
- depositing a clad layer having a thickness greater than about 0.5 mm (0.02 in) on a steel body of the component using a hardfacing process, the steel body having a hardness between about 43 HRC and 60 HRC;
- and
- heat treating the component after the cladding, the heat treating including;
- austenizing the component by exposing the component to an austenizing temperature between about 875 C (1607 F) and about 900 C (1652 F);
- quenching the component in a liquid bath at a quenching temperature between about 35 C (95 F) and about 41 C (106 F);
- and
- removing the component from the liquid bath;
- tempering the component after the removing by exposing the component to a tempering temperature between about 143.3 C (290 F) and about 154 C (309 F);
- and
- cooling the component to room temperature after the tempering.
A manufacturing process for a component subject to wear, comprising:
- depositing a clad layer on a component made of a low alloy boron steel using a hardfacing process;
- and
- heat treating the component after depositing the clad layer, the heat treating including;
- austenizing the component by exposing the component to an austenizing temperature between about 875 C (1607 F) and about 900 C (1652 F);
- quenching the component in a liquid bath;
- removing the component from the liquid bath when a temperature of the component is between about 100 C (212 F) and 300 C (572 F);
- tempering the component after the removing by exposing the component to a tempering temperature between about 143.3 C (290 F) and 154 C (309 F);
- and
- cooling the component to room temperature after the tempering.
A manufacturing process for a component subject to wear, comprising:
- depositing a clad layer on a component made of a low alloy boron steel using a hardfacing process;
- and
- heat treating the component after depositing the clad layer, the heat treating including;
- austenizing the component by exposing the component to an austenizing temperature for about 60 minutes;
- quenching the component in a liquid bath maintained at a quenching temperature of between about 35 C (95 F) and about 41 C (106 F);
- removing the component from the liquid bath when a residual temperature of the component is between about 100 C (212 F) and 300 C (572 F);
- tempering the component after the removing by exposing the component to a tempering temperature between about 143.3 C (290 F) and 154 C (309 F) for about 85 to about 90 minutes;
- and
- cooling the component to room temperature after the tempering.
