Abstract
Reduced-pair Ethernet patch cords include a twisted pair cable that has a pair of insulated conductors that are contained within a cable jacket. A connector is mounted on a first end of the cable. The connector includes a connector housing and a strain relief unit that is mounted on the cable at the interface between the cable and the connector housing. The strain relief unit includes a plurality of internal protrusions that contact the cable jacket.
Claims20
A reduced-pair Ethernet patch cord system, comprising:
- a cable having a single pair of insulated conductors that are contained within a cable jacket;
- and
- a connector mounted on a first end of the cable, the connector including a connector housing containing exactly one pair of socket contacts comprising a first socket contact and a second socket contact, wherein the first socket contact is a tip socket contact that resides in a first horizontal plane paralleling an elongate axis of the connector and the second socket contact is a ring socket contact that resides in a second horizontal plane that is beneath and parallel to the first horizontal plane.
A reduced-pair Ethernet patch cord system, comprising:
- a first twisted pair cable that includes:
- a first single twisted pair of insulated conductors that are contained within a cable jacket;
- and
- a first connector mounted on a first end of the first cable, the first connector including a connector housing containing exactly one pair of socket contacts comprising a first socket contact and a second socket contact, wherein the first socket contact is a tip socket that resides in a first horizontal plane and the second socket contact is a ring socket that resides in a second horizontal plane that is beneath and parallel to the first horizontal plane;
- a second twisted pair cable that includes:
- a second single twisted pair of insulated conductors that are contained within a cable jacket;
- and
- a second connector mounted on a first end of the second cable, the second connector including a connector housing containing exactly one pair of socket contacts comprising a first socket contact and a second socket contact, wherein the first socket contact is a ring socket that resides in the first horizontal plane and the second socket contact is a tip socket that resides in the second horizontal plane;
- and
- an inline connector comprising a pair of double-sided pin contacts, wherein each of the double-sided pin contacts reside in both the first horizontal plane and the second horizontal plane and connect the tip socket of the first connector to the tip socket of the second connector and connect the ring socket of the first connector to the ring socket of the second connector.
A reduced-pair Ethernet patch cord system, comprising:
- a cable having a single pair of insulated conductors that are contained within a cable jacket;
- and
- a connector mounted on a first end of the cable, the connector including a connector housing containing exactly one pair of socket contacts comprising a first socket contact and a second socket contact, wherein the first socket contact is a tip socket contact that is vertically offset from the second socket which is a ring socket contact, and wherein an elongate axis of each of the first and second socket contacts are oriented in the same direction as an elongate axis of the connector housing.
