Abstract
The present invention comprises methods and compositions for the reduction of oxalate in humans, animals and plants. For example, the invention provides methods and compositions for the delivery of one ore more oxalate-reducing enzymes to the intestinal tracts of persons and animals. The methods and compositions can be used in treating and preventing oxalate-related conditions.
Claims15
A method for reducing systemic circulating oxalate in a subject in need thereof, comprising orally administering a composition comprising oxalate decarboxylase in an amount effective to reduce the amount or concentration of oxalate in the gastrointestinal tract of said subject, wherein the administering of said composition is effected at least once per day for a period of months or years, wherein the method is effective to reduce systemic circulating oxalate in said subject.
