Universal reservation signal for wireless communications

A wireless device, comprising:

• a processor;
• a non-transitory computer-readable storage medium coupled to the processor and storing one or more programs containing instructions that, when executed by the processor of the wireless device, cause the wireless device to:
• determine an upcoming channel busy time during which a wireless channel is to be occupied by the wireless device;
• and
• generate a broadcast packet including a universal reservation signal indicating the upcoming channel busy time;
• and
• one or more transceivers configured to broadcast the broadcast packet including the universal reservation signal on the wireless channel to at least one wireless device, wherein the broadcast packet includes a training field indicating the beginning of the packet and an information field including a number representing a duration of time of the upcoming channel busy time.

A method, comprising:

• determining by a wireless device an upcoming channel busy time during which a wireless channel is to be occupied by the wireless device;
• generating a broadcast packet including a universal reservation signal indicating the upcoming channel busy time;
• and
• broadcasting the broadcast packet including the universal reservation signal on the wireless channel to at least one wireless device, wherein the broadcast packet includes a training field indicating the beginning of the packet and an information field including a number representing a duration of time, in units of time, of the upcoming channel busy time.
