Abstract
Media content search results ranked by popularity is described. In embodiment(s), a search request for television media content can be initiated by a viewer, and television media content that is relevant to the search request can be identified. The relevant television media content can then be ranked based on a popularity rating and the relevant television media content can be displayed in an ordered list that is ordered by popularity rankings.
Claims20
A method for customizing search results for a user, the method comprising:
- receiving, from a user, a first request to search for media assets, the first request comprising a keyword;
- based on receiving the first request:
- retrieving, from storage circuitry, a first data structure comprising a first plurality of database entries each corresponding to a respective media asset, wherein each database entry comprises descriptive metadata associated with the respective media asset;
- comparing, using control circuitry, the keyword to the descriptive metadata associated with each of the first plurality of database entries;
- identifying, based on the comparing, a first subset of the first plurality of database entries that are associated with the descriptive metadata that includes the keyword, wherein the first subset of the database entries comprises a database entry for a first media asset;
- and
- storing, in user interaction metadata, the first request;
- receiving, from the user, a selection of the first media asset;
- based on receiving the selection of the first media asset, storing, in user interaction metadata associated with the first request, an indication of the selection of the first media asset;
- receiving, from the user, a second request to search for a media asset, the second request comprising the keyword;
- based on receiving the second request:
- retrieving, from the storage circuitry, a second data structure comprising a second plurality of database entries each corresponding to a respective media asset, wherein each database entry comprises descriptive metadata associated with the respective media asset;
- comparing, using the control circuitry, the keyword to the descriptive metadata associated with each of the second plurality of database entries;
- identifying, based on the comparing, a second subset of the second plurality of database entries that are associated with the descriptive metadata that includes the keyword, wherein the second subset of the database entries comprises a database entry for the first media asset;
- retrieving the user interaction metadata comprising indications of past requests from the user to search for media assets;
- identifying, in the user interaction metadata, the indication of the selection of the first media asset associated with the first request;
- and
- based on identifying the indication of the selection of the first media asset associated with the first request, generating a ranked list of media assets including the first media asset, wherein the first media asset is placed at a higher position on the ranked list than a second media asset based on the identification of the indication of the selection of the first media asset associated with the first request.
A system for customizing search results for a user, the system comprising:
- hardware processing circuitry configured to:
- receive, from a user, a first request to search for media assets, the first request comprising a keyword;
- based on receiving the first request:
- retrieve, from storage circuitry, a first data structure comprising a first plurality of database entries each corresponding to a respective media asset, wherein each database entry comprises descriptive metadata associated with the respective media asset;
- compare, using control circuitry, the keyword to the descriptive metadata associated with each of the first plurality of database entries;
- identify, based on the comparing, a first subset of the first plurality of database entries that are associated with the descriptive metadata that includes the keyword, wherein the first subset of the database entries comprises a database entry for a first media asset;
- and
- store, in user interaction metadata, the first request;
- receive, from the user, a selection of the first media asset;
- based on receiving the selection of the first media asset, store, in user interaction metadata associated with the first request, an indication of the selection of the first media asset;
- receive, from the user, a second request to search for a media asset, the second request comprising the keyword;
- in response to receiving the second request:
- retrieve, from the storage circuitry, a second data structure comprising a second plurality of database entries each corresponding to a respective media asset, wherein each database entry comprises descriptive metadata associated with the respective media asset;
- compare, using the control circuitry, the keyword to the descriptive metadata associated with each of the second plurality of database entries;
- identify, based on the comparing, a second subset of the second plurality of database entries that are associated with the descriptive metadata that includes the keyword, wherein the second subset of the database entries comprises a database entry for the first media asset;
- retrieve the user interaction metadata comprising indications of past requests from the user to search for media assets;
- identify, in the user interaction metadata, the indication of the selection of the first media asset associated with the first request;
- and
- based on identifying the indication of the selection of the first media asset associated with the first request, generate a ranked list of media assets including the first media asset, wherein the first media asset is placed at a higher position on the ranked list than a second media asset based on the identification of the indication of the selection of the first media asset associated with the first request.
