Enhancement of high dynamic range content

An apparatus for video processing, comprising:

• a memory;
• and
• at least one processor coupled to the memory and configured to:
• obtain a video stream with a plurality of frames;
• map, for each frame of the plurality of frames, a first luminance level associated with the frame to a second luminance level based on a transfer function, the transfer function including a first function for a first luminance level range, a second function for a second luminance level range, and a third function for a third luminance level range, the first function being non-linear and the second function being polynomial;
• and
• indicate, for each frame of the plurality frames, the second luminance level within the video stream.

An apparatus for video processing, comprising:

• means for obtaining a video stream with a plurality of frames;
• means for mapping, for each frame of the plurality of frames, a first luminance level associated with the frame to a second luminance level based on a transfer function, the transfer function including a first function for a first luminance level range, a second function for a second luminance level range, and a third function for a third luminance level range, the first function being non-linear and the second function being polynomial;
• and
• means for indicating, for each frame of the plurality frames, the second luminance level within the video stream.

A computer-readable medium storing computer executable code for video processing, comprising code to:

• obtain a video stream with a plurality of frames;
• map, for each frame of the plurality of frames, a first luminance level associated with the frame to a second luminance level based on a transfer function, the transfer function including a first function for a first luminance level range, a second function for a second luminance level range, and a third function for a third luminance level range, the first function being non-linear and the second function being polynomial;
• and
• indicate, for each frame of the plurality frames, the second luminance level within the video stream.
