Abstract
A method for the fabrication of h-WO3/WS2 core/shell nanowires and their use in flexible supercapacitor applications. The novel nanowire assemblies exhibit multifold advantages desired for high-performance supercapacitors, including superior material properties and electrode design. The material design principle can be extended to other material systems, implying its great potential for a variety of energy storage devices compatible with emerging flexible and wearable technologies.
Claims9
A supercapacitor comprising:
- an array of nanowires fabricated from a metal foil, each of the nanowires of the array comprising;
- a nanowire core formed by oxidizing the metal foil to form an oxidized metal foil;
- and
- a shell surrounding the nanowire core, the shell formed by sulfurizing the oxidized metal foil of the nanowire core to form a plurality of layers of sulfurized metal foil, each of the plurality of layers separated from each other by a sub-nanometer physical gap.

A supercapacitor comprising:
- an array of nanowires fabricated from a tungsten (W) foil, each of the nanowires of the array comprising;
- a one-dimensional hexagonal tungsten trioxide (h-WO3) nanowire core;
- and
- a two-dimensional tungsten disulfide (WS2) shell surrounding the nanowire core, the shell comprising a plurality of layers, each of the plurality of layers separated from each other by a sub-nanometer physical gap.
