Advisor system and method

An aircraft-centric method for generating advisories for display on an aircraft cockpit display in a first aircraft operating on a movement area of an airport based on operations of a second aircraft projected to operate on the movement area, comprising:

• receiving at an advisory system of a first aircraft, ownship data of the first aircraft, airport environmental factors, and surveillance signals related to the second aircraft;
• determining a health of the advisory system is sufficient to rely on an advisory from the advisory system, comprising:
• determining a quality of the received airport environmental factors;
• determining a quality of the received surveillance signals is a sufficient quality including determining sufficient accuracy and minimal latency of the received surveillance signals, and
• determining a proper operation of the advisory system, comprising:
• determining advisory system memory utilization by the processor is below a threshold value;
• and
• determining advisory system processor utilization of the processor is below a threshold value,
• determining a potential interference condition between the first aircraft and the second aircraft, comprising:
• determining a projected path vector of the first aircraft based on the received ownship data,
• determining a projected movement vector of the second aircraft based on the surveillance signals received at the first aircraft and indicating movement of the second aircraft, and
• determining the projected path vector and the projected movement vector intersect;
• and
• providing an advisory for display on the aircraft cockpit display, the advisory indicating a threat to the first aircraft.

An aircraft advisory system coupled to an onboard component of a first aircraft operating on a movement area of an airport, the onboard aircraft comprising a cockpit area display unit, the advisory system comprising:

• a software defined radio coupled to the cockpit area display and coupled to one or more receive antennas, wherein the software defined radio receives and processes ownship data, surveillance signals related to a second aircraft projected to operate on the movement area, and receives and processes airport environmental factors;
• and
• a processor system coupled to the software defined radio, comprising:
• a processor, and
• a non-transitory, computer-readable storage medium having encoded thereon machine instructions that the processor executes to:
• determine a health of the advisory system is sufficient to rely on an advisory from the advisory system, comprising:
• determining a quality of the received airport environmental factors;
• and
• determining a quality of the surveillance signals received by the advisory system is a sufficient quality including determining sufficient accuracy and minimal latency of the received surveillance signals,
• determine a potential interference condition between the first aircraft and the second aircraft, comprising:
• determining a projected path vector of the first aircraft based on the received ownship data,
• determining a projected movement vector of the second aircraft based on the surveillance signals received at the first aircraft and indicating movement of the second aircraft, and
• determining the projected path vector and the projected movement vector intersect;
• and
• provide an advisory for display on the aircraft cockpit display, the advisory indicating a threat to the first aircraft.
