Door closer communication

A method of operating an entryway control system for the operation of an entryway device, the entryway system comprising a door closer operable to move the entryway device, the method comprising:

• by the door closer, generating information relating to at least one operating characteristic of the door closer;
• by the door closer, wirelessly transmitting to an access control device, by a wireless transceiver, the information relating to at least one operating characteristic of the door closer;
• by the door closer, wirelessly receiving instructions from the access control device, by the wireless transceiver, to adjust a selected operating characteristic of the at least one operating characteristic;
• and
• by the door closer and in response to receiving the instructions, adjusting the selected operating characteristic according to the instructions.

An entryway control system for the operation of an entryway device, the entryway control system comprising:

• a door closer comprising a closer body, a sensor configured to detect an operating characteristic of the door closer, and a first wireless transceiver positioned in the closer body and configured to wirelessly transmit information relating to the operating characteristic;
• and
• an access control device operable to control access through the entryway device, the access control device comprising a second wireless transceiver operable to receive the information relating to the operating characteristic;
• wherein at least one of the access control device or the door closer is configured to wirelessly transmit the information relating to the operating characteristic to an external device.
