Aqueous pharmaceutical formulation comprising propofol

A method of inducing anesthesia or sedation in a patient in need thereof, the method comprising administering to said patient a pharmaceutical composition comprising about 10 mg/mL of propofol, 175 mg/mL of sulfobutylether β-cyclodextrin, a citrate buffer, and water for injection, and wherein the amount of propofol administered to the patient is in the range of about 0.125 mg/kg to about 2.0 mg/kg to induce effective sedation or anesthesia.

A method of maintaining anesthesia or sedation in a patient in need thereof, the method comprising administering to said patient a pharmaceutical composition comprising about 10 mg/mL of propofol, 175 mg/mL of sulfobutylether β-cyclodextrin, a citrate buffer, and water for injection, and wherein the propofol is administered to the patient at a rate of about 2 mg/kg/h to about 6 mg/kg/h to maintain effective sedation or anesthesia.
