Apparatus and method for recognition of inhaler actuation

A medication confirmation method for confirming administration of medication employing an inhalable medication administration apparatus, comprising:

• displaying on a display one or more instructions for instructing proper placement of the inhalable medication administration apparatus;
• capturing, by a video capture device, one or more video sequences of a user administering medication employing the inhalable medication administration apparatus;
• storing the captured one or more video sequences;
• analyzing, by a processor, at least one of the stored video sequences to confirm that the user has properly administered the medication with the inhalable medication administration apparatus, including at least whether the user had properly positioned the inhalable medication administration apparatus at a correct angle relative to the body of the user during use thereof;
• determining, based on the analysis of the at least one of the stored video sequences, that the user has not properly administered the medication with the inhalable medication administration apparatus;
• and
• in response to determining that the user has not properly administered the medication, displaying on the display a second set of one or more instructions further instructing proper placement and use of the inhalable medication administration apparatus, including at least instructions for properly positioning the inhalable medication administration apparatus at the correct angle relative to a body of the user during use thereof.
