Abstract
An apparatus for visualizing physical movements includes: a device for acquiring video image files; a data analysis system including processor and memory; a computer program operating in the processor to identify an area in the images where periodic motions associated with physical movement of an object may be detected and quantified, and compute a new image sequence in which the motions are visually amplified; and, a user interface that displays the motion-amplified video image of the mechanical component. An associated method for using the apparatus is also disclosed.
Claims24
An apparatus for visualizing physical movements comprising:
- a device for acquiring video image files comprising at least a first image frame and a second image frame, each of which is divided into a plurality of pixels;
- a data analysis system including processor and memory that analyzes a motion of at least one object shown in the image frames and quantifies the motion occurring through displacement of the at least one object's position from the first image frame to the second image frame;
- and
- a computer program operating in said processor to generate a time waveform of motion of the at least one object and display the time waveform simultaneously with a playback of a modified version of the video image files, wherein the modification produces motion amplification of the displacement of the at least one object, wherein the motion amplification is performed digitally to visually exaggerate the apparent movement of the at least one object.
An apparatus for visualizing physical movements comprising:
- a device for acquiring video image files comprising at least a first image frame and a second image frame, each of which is divided into a plurality of pixels;
- a data analysis system including processor and memory that analyzes a motion of at least one object shown in the image frames and quantifies the motion occurring through displacement of the at least one object's position from the first image frame to the second image frame;
- and
- a computer program operating in said processor to generate a frequency spectrum of motion of the at least one object and display the frequency spectrum simultaneously with a playback of a modified version of the video image files, wherein the modification produces motion amplification of the displacement of the object, wherein the motion amplification is performed digitally to visually exaggerate the apparent movement of the at least one object.
An apparatus for visualizing physical movements comprising:
- a device for acquiring video image files comprising at least a first image frame and a second image frame, each of which is divided into a plurality of pixels;
- a data analysis system including processor and memory that analyzes a motion of a first object shown in the image frames and quantifies the motion occurring through displacement of the first object's position from the first image frame to the second image frame;
- and
- a computer program operating in said processor to generate data comprising one or both of a measurement of phase or a phase mask of motion of the first object relative to a particular time or to a phase motion of a second object's phase motion and display the generated data simultaneously with a playback of a modified version of the video image files, wherein the modification produces motion amplification of the displacement of the object, wherein the motion amplification is performed digitally to visually exaggerate the apparent movement of the at least one object.
An apparatus for visualizing physical movements comprising:
- a device for acquiring video image files comprising at least a first image frame and a second image frame, each of which is divided into a plurality of pixels;
- a data analysis system including processor and memory that analyzes a motion of at least one object shown in the image frames and quantifies the motion occurring through displacement of the at least one object's position from the first image frame to the second image frame;
- and
- a computer program operating in said processor to generate a colorized amplitude map and display the colorized amplitude map simultaneously with a playback of a modified version of the video image files, wherein the modification produces motion amplification of the displacement of the object, wherein the motion amplification is performed digitally to visually exaggerate the apparent movement of the at least one object.
A method for visualizing physical movements or thermal changes to improved detection of changes in a field of view and prevent false alarms, comprising:
- acquiring one or more videos of a selected object at one or more wavelengths from one or more devices sensitive to different electromagnetic energy bands including visual, IR, UV, x-ray, and microwave that have been collected with a common time base;
- and
- providing a data analysis system including processor and memory to:
- operate on one or more common regions of interest within the one or more videos to investigate changes in intensity of the selected object, to provide multiple measurements of same phenomena, or to synchronize dynamic behavior of different phenomena;
- amplify changes in intensity of the one or more videos of the selected object to enable visual inspection of changes in intensity of the selected object, or measurements of same phenomena, or dynamic behavior of the different phenomena of interest,
- wherein the phenomena are chosen from the group consisting of vital signs in a living subject, physical motion obtained in a surveillance video, and faults in mechanical or electrical equipment;
- and
- construct companion videos of the amplified changes in intensity that are synchronized in time.
