Abstract
A system serves web pages with digital ads to client devices by determining viewability scores for individual ad insertion spaces on the web pages. The system determines viewability scores for each field based on the time at which at least a threshold percentage or ratio of the field's pixels where viewable and not off-screen or obscured by another open window. The system then selects digital ads to serve to each fields based on the field's viewability score.
Claims21
A method of determining viewability of an ad insertion field of a web page that is displayed on a client electronic device, comprising:
- by one or more servers:
- accessing an instance of a web page that is served to a client electronic device and output on a user interface of the client electronic device, wherein the web page includes a plurality of ad insertion fields, each of which is associated with a unique element ID;
- loading the element ID for a first ad insertion field along with one or more element IDs for one or more additional insertion fields that are included in the web page;
- querying the web page for the element ID for the first ad insertion field to come into existence on the user interface;
- when the element ID for the first ad insertion field is loaded on the user interface, determining whether code to render an ad has been loaded into the first ad insertion field;
- and
- when code to render an ad has been loaded into the first ad insertion field, determining the viewability score for the first ad insertion field.
A system for determining viewability of an ad insertion field of a web page that is displayed on a client electronic device, the system comprising:
- a server comprising a processor and a memory that stores programming instructions that are configured to cause the server processor to:
- access an instance of a web page that is served to a client electronic device and output on a user interface of the client electronic device, wherein the web page includes a plurality of ad insertion fields, each of which is associated with a unique element ID;
- load the element ID for a first ad insertion field along with one or more element IDs for one or more additional insertion fields that are included in the web page;
- query the web page for the element ID for the first ad insertion field to come into existence on the user interface;
- when the element ID for the first ad insertion field is loaded on the user interface, determine whether code to render an ad has been loaded into the first ad insertion field;
- and
- when code to render an ad has been loaded into the first ad insertion field, determine the viewability score for the first ad insertion field.
A tangible and non-transitory computer readable medium having programming instructions stored thereon which when executed to cause one or more processors to:
- access an instance of a web page that is served to a client electronic device and output on a user interface of the client electronic device, wherein the web page includes a plurality of ad insertion fields, each of which is associated with a unique element ID;
- load the element ID for a first ad insertion field along with one or more element IDs for one or more additional insertion fields that are included in the web page;
- query the web page for the element ID for the first ad insertion field to come into existence on the user interface;
- when the element ID for the first ad insertion field is loaded on the user interface, determine whether code to render an ad has been loaded into the first ad insertion field;
- and
- when code to render an ad has been loaded into the first ad insertion field, determine the viewability score for the first ad insertion field.
