Abstract
An animal-wearable head-mountable display (AW-HMD) device comprises a head fitting designed to fit the head of an animal, and an output subsystem coupled to or integral with the head fitting and configured to output a signal to the animal. The device can comprise an optical module configured to project images into an eye of the animal, and various other modules, such as an audio module, a tactile module and/or an olfactory module. An animal-wearable first person view (AW-FPV) system may be used separately or in conjunction with the AW-HMD device, to enable a remote human user to view the animal's real-world environment from the animal's point of view.
Claims23
A sensor module comprising:
- a housing of the sensor module;
- at least a portion of a fastener,
- wherein the housing and the fastener are designed to enable the sensor module to be removably attached to a particular design of goggles designed to fit the morphological head structure of a specific animal or a specific species of animal;
- and
- a first camera at least partially contained within the housing and positioned to acquire image data of a real world environment of the animal from a perspective of an animal when in operation while the sensor module is attached to the goggles and the goggles are worn by the animal.
A head-mountable first person viewing system comprising:
- a head fitting designed to fit the head of an animal;
- a first camera coupled to the head fitting and positioned to acquire image data of a real world environment of the animal from the perspective of the animal when the head-mountable first person viewing system is worn by the animal;
- and
- a plurality of input/output components that collectively enable a remote human user to interact with the animal in real time while the head-mountable first person viewing system is worn by the animal, the plurality of input/output components including a wireless transceiver to transmit the image data acquired by the first camera over a wireless link in real-time, for delivery to a remote device configured to display real-time images of the real world environment of the animal to the human user based on the image data, the wireless transceiver further to receive over the wireless link signals indicative of a signal from the human user to the animal, the plurality of input/output components further including an output device to generate in real time an output to the animal indicative of the signal from the human user to the animal.
A head-mountable input/output (I/O) system comprising:
- a head fitting designed to fit the head of an animal;
- an optical output subsystem coupled to or integral with the head fitting and configured to output images to the animal;
- a plurality of cameras, each at least partially contained within the housing and positioned to acquire image data of a real world environment of the animal when in operation while the head-mountable I/O system is worn by the animal;
- and
- plurality of input/output components that collectively enable a remote human user to interact with the animal in real time while the head-mountable I/O system is worn by the animal, the plurality of input/output components including a wireless transceiver to transmit the image data acquired by one or more of the cameras over a wireless link in real-time, for delivery to a remote device configured to display real-time images of the real world environment of the animal to the human user based on the image data, the wireless transceiver further to receive over the wireless link signals indicative of a signal from the human user to the animal, the plurality of input/output components further including an output device to generate in real time an output to the animal indicative of the signal from the human user to the animal.
