Abstract
An occurrence of one or more “care events” is detected by an electronic device monitoring environmental data and/or user data from one or more sensors. The electronic device transmits one or more alerts regarding the detected occurrence to at least one other electronic device. In some cases, the electronic device may cooperate with at least one other electronic device in monitoring, detecting, and/or transmitting. For example, the electronic device may detect the occurrence based on sensor data received from a cooperative electronic device or such data in combination with the electronic device's sensor data. By way of another example, the electronic device may detect the occurrence and signal a cooperative electronic device to transmit one or more alerts.
Claims22
A system for providing alerts regarding a care event, comprising:
- an electronic device, comprising:
- at least one non transitory storage medium that stores instructions;
- and
- at least one processing unit that stores a list of contacts provided by the user, wherein the list of contacts includes first and second sets of members and wherein the at least one processing unit executes the instructions to:
- detect an occurrence of at least one care event by monitoring at least one of environment data and user data from at least one sensor;
- put the electronic device into at least one power saving mode in response to detecting the occurrence;
- and
- transmit at least one alert regarding the detected occurrence to at least one other electronic device, wherein the at least one other electronic device to which the alert is transmitted is selected from the first set of members when a severity of the care event is below a threshold and from the second set of members when the severity of the care event is above the threshold.
An electronic device, comprising:
- a motion sensor that gathers motion sensor data;
- a heart rate sensor that measures heart rate;
- at least one non transitory storage medium that stores instructions;
- and
- at least one processing unit that executes the instructions to:
- determine a location of the electronic device;
- monitor whether the heart rate exceeds a threshold using the heart rate sensor;
- determine that a care event has occurred based on the motion sensor data and in response to determining that the heart rate exceeds a threshold and that the user is not at a given location;
- and
- transmit at least one alert regarding the care event.
A method for providing alerts regarding a care event using an electronic device having processing circuitry, communications circuitry, and at least one sensor, comprising:
- with the at least one sensor, gathering sensor data including at least one of environment data and user data;
- with the processing circuitry, detecting an occurrence of at least one care event by monitoring the sensor data from the at least one sensor, wherein detecting the occurrence of the at least one care event comprises determining that a heart rate of a user exceeds a threshold and that the user is not exercising based on a speed of the electronic device not matching a predetermined criteria;
- and
- with the communications circuitry, transmitting at least one alert to at least one other electronic device in response to the detected occurrence, wherein transmitting the alert comprises automatically transmitting the alert without requiring any user input.
An electronic device, comprising:
- a sensor that gathers sensor data, wherein the sensor data includes a heart rate of a user and a speed of the electronic device;
- processing circuitry that monitors the sensor data to detect an occurrence of a care event based on the heart rate of the user and the speed of the electronic device, wherein the electronic device enters a power saving mode in response to detecting the occurrence of the care event;
- and
- communications circuitry that transmits at least one alert in response to the detecting the occurrence of the care event.
