Abstract
Disclosed are some examples of database systems, methods, and computer program products for processing log files. In some implementations, a server of a database system accesses a metadata file indicating algorithms that can be applied to data of log files. The server generates customer-facing log files using the log file and metadata file. The customer-facing log files include new data derived from using the algorithms and the data of the log files.
Claims20
A database system comprising:
- at least one server capable of executing instructions configurable to cause:
- accessing a log file referenced by at least one data object in at least one database, the log file comprising a plurality of data entries identifying system events corresponding to user activity associated with a plurality of users of the database system, each data entry of the log file comprising a plurality of data items, each of the data items corresponding to one of a plurality of data fields;
- accessing a metadata file, the metadata file indicating one or more new data fields to include in at least one customer-specific log file and indicating one or more algorithms capable of being used to generate additional data items corresponding to the new data fields based on at least a portion of the plurality of data items;
- generating a plurality of new data items using the one or more algorithms indicated by the metadata file, each of the new data items corresponding to one of the new data fields and one of the plurality of data entries;
- generating or updating, based at least in part on the log file and the metadata file, one or more customer-facing log files such that each customer-facing log file includes at least a subset of the plurality of data fields and the new data fields, each customer-facing log file being associated with a corresponding customer entity capable of being serviced by the database system;
- and
- updating, based at least in part on the log file and the metadata file, each customer-facing log file such that it includes, for each data entry of at least a subset of the plurality of data entries, a corresponding customer log file entry that includes a) at least a subset of the plurality of data items corresponding to at least a subset of the plurality of fields and b) a subset of the plurality of new data items, the subset of the plurality of new data items corresponding to the new data fields and the data entry.
A computer program product comprising program code to be executed by at least one processor when retrieved from a non-transitory computer-readable medium, the program code comprising instructions configurable to cause:
- accessing a log file referenced by at least one data object in at least one database, the log file comprising a plurality of data entries identifying system events corresponding to user activity associated with a plurality of users of a database system, each data entry of the log file comprising a plurality of data items, each of the data items corresponding to one of a plurality of data fields;
- accessing a metadata file, the metadata file indicating one or more new data fields to include in at least one customer-specific log file and indicating one or more algorithms capable of being used to generate additional data items corresponding to the new data fields based on at least a portion of the plurality of data items;
- generating a plurality of new data items using the one or more algorithms indicated by the metadata file, each of the new data items corresponding to one of the new data fields and one of the plurality of data entries;
- generating or updating, based at least in part on the log file and the metadata file, one or more customer-facing log files such that each customer-facing log file includes at least a subset of the plurality of data fields and the new data fields, each customer-facing log file being associated with a corresponding customer entity capable of being serviced by the database system;
- and
- updating, based at least in part on the log file and the metadata file, each customer-facing log file such that it includes, for each data entry of at least a subset of the plurality of data entries, a corresponding customer log file entry that includes a) at least a subset of the plurality of data items corresponding to at least a subset of the plurality of fields and b) a subset of the plurality of new data items, the subset of the plurality of new data items corresponding to the new data fields and the data entry.
A method for processing log files using a database system, the method comprising:
- accessing, by the database system, a log file referenced by at least one data object in at least one database, the log file comprising a plurality of data entries identifying system events corresponding to user activity associated with a plurality of users of a database system, each data entry of the log file comprising a plurality of data items, each of the data items corresponding to one of a plurality of data fields;
- accessing, by the database system, a metadata file, the metadata file indicating one or more new data fields to include in at least one customer-specific log file and indicating one or more algorithms capable of being used to generate additional data items corresponding to the new data fields based on at least a portion of the plurality of data items;
- generating, by the database system, a plurality of new data items using the one or more algorithms indicated by the metadata file, each of the new data items corresponding to one of the new data fields and one of the plurality of data entries;
- generating or updating, by the database system, based at least in part on the log file and the metadata file, one or more customer-facing log files such that each customer-facing log file includes at least a subset of the plurality of data fields and the new data fields, each customer-facing log file being associated with a corresponding customer entity capable of being serviced by the database system;
- and
- updating by the database system, based at least in part on the log file and the metadata file, each customer-facing log file such that it includes, for each data entry of at least a subset of the plurality of data entries, a corresponding customer log file entry that includes a) at least a subset of the plurality of data items corresponding to at least a subset of the plurality of fields and b) a subset of the plurality of new data items, the subset of the plurality of new data items corresponding to the new data fields and the data entry.
