Pressure regulator

A pressure regulator, said pressure regulator comprising a housing containing a channel arranged to communicate a fluid in a downstream path from a fluid inlet to a fluid outlet, said channel comprising a valve seat and closure member with said closure member operable with said valve seat to control flow through the channel and;

• wherein the housing comprises a resilient diaphragm member in fluid communication and in physical communication with the closure member such that the diaphragm member is operable to deform in response to a change in pressure of the fluid and such that deformation of the diaphragm member causes the closure member to change position;
• wherein a hollow member is located entirely within the channel downstream of the valve seat and a stem of said hollow member defines a narrow path between the channel and an outside of said stem in a region proximate to the fluid outlet such that fluid passing through the channel is communicated from the fluid inlet to the fluid outlet via said narrow path such that the pressure of the fluid emerging from said narrow path into the channel is communicated from a downstream termination of the hollow member to the diaphragm member via an interior of the hollow member, to an end of the hollow member that is in contact with fluid proximate to the diaphragm member;
• wherein the stem of the hollow member is substantially perpendicular to a movement axis of the closure member;
• wherein the outside of the stem of the hollow member has an outward taper in a flow path which fluid flows around;
• wherein the interior of the hollow member is straight along its entire length between the downstream termination thereof and the end of the hollow member that is in contact with fluid proximate to the diaphragm member;
• and
• wherein the outward taper of the outside of the stem of the hollow member gradually increases along an entire length of the stem of the hollow member toward the downstream termination in the flow path and within the channel.

A pressure regulator, said pressure regulator comprising a housing containing a channel arranged to communicate a fluid in a downstream path from a fluid inlet to a fluid outlet, said channel wholly contained within the housing and comprising a valve seat and closure member with said closure member operable with said valve seat to control flow through the channel and;

• wherein the housing comprises a resilient diaphragm member in fluid communication and in physical communication with the closure member such that the diaphragm member is operable to deform in response to a change in pressure of the fluid and such that deformation of the diaphragm member causes the closure member to change position;
• wherein a hollow member is located in the channel downstream of the valve seat and a stem of said hollow member defines a narrow path between the channel and an outside of said stem in a region proximate to the fluid outlet such that fluid passing through the channel is communicated from the fluid inlet to the fluid outlet via said narrow path such that the pressure of the fluid emerging from said narrow path into the channel is communicated from a downstream termination of the hollow member to the diaphragm member via an interior of the hollow member, an end of the hollow member farthest from the outlet and a diaphragm chamber;
• wherein the downstream termination of the interior of the hollow member is at an end of the hollow member closest to the outlet;
• wherein the diaphragm chamber has part of its boundary formed by the diaphragm member and wherein the end of the hollow member farthest from the outlet is in contact with fluid in the diaphragm chamber;
• wherein the outside of the stem of the hollow member has an outward taper in a flow path which fluid flows around to provide a passage reducing in cross-section towards the downstream end of the stem;
• wherein the interior of the hollow member is straight along an entire length of the hollow member between the downstream termination thereof and the end of the hollow member that is in contact with fluid proximate to the diaphragm member;
• and
• wherein the outward taper of the outside of the stem of the hollow member gradually increases along an entire length of the stem of the hollow member toward the downstream termination in the flow path and within the channel.

A pressure regulator, said pressure regulator comprising a housing containing a channel arranged to communicate a fluid in a downstream path from a fluid inlet to a fluid outlet, said channel wholly contained within the housing and comprising a valve seat and closure member with said closure member operable with said valve seat to control flow through the channel and;

• wherein the housing comprises a resilient diaphragm member in fluid communication and in physical communication with the closure member such that the diaphragm member is operable to deform in response to a change in pressure of the fluid and such that deformation of the diaphragm member causes the closure member to change position;
• wherein a hollow member is located in the channel downstream of the valve seat and a stem of said hollow member defines a narrow path between the channel and an outside of said stem in a region proximate to the fluid outlet such that fluid passing through the channel is communicated from the fluid inlet to the fluid outlet via said narrow path such that the pressure of the fluid emerging from said narrow path into the channel is communicated from a downstream termination of the hollow member to the diaphragm member via an interior of the hollow member, an end of the hollow member farthest from the outlet and a diaphragm chamber;
• wherein the downstream termination of the interior of the hollow member is at an end of the hollow member closest to the outlet;
• wherein the diaphragm chamber has part of its boundary formed by the diaphragm member and wherein the end of the hollow member farthest from the outlet is in contact with fluid in the diaphragm chamber;
• wherein the outside of the stem of the hollow member has an outward taper in a flow path which fluid flows around to provide a passage reducing in cross-section towards the downstream end of the stem;
• wherein the interior of the hollow member is straight along an endue length of the hollow member between the downstream termination thereof and the end of the hollow member that is in contact with fluid proximate to the diaphragm member;
• and
• wherein the passage reduces gradually in cross-section towards the downstream end of the stem along an entire length of the stem of the hollow member.

A pressure regulator, said pressure regulator comprising a housing containing a channel arranged to communicate a fluid in a downstream path from a fluid inlet to a fluid outlet, said channel comprising a valve seat and closure member with said closure member operable with said valve seat to control flow through the channel and;

• wherein a hollow member is located entirely within the channel downstream of the valve seat and a stem of said hollow member defines a narrow path between the channel and an outside of said stem in a region proximate to the fluid outlet such that fluid passing through the channel is communicated from the fluid inlet to the fluid outlet via said narrow path such that the pressure of the fluid emerging from said narrow path into the channel is communicated from a downstream termination of the hollow member to the diaphragm member via an interior of the hollow member, to an end of the hollow member that is in contact with fluid proximate to the diaphragm member;
• wherein the stem of the hollow member is substantially perpendicular to a movement axis of the closure member;
• wherein the outside of the stem of the hollow member has an outward taper in a flow path which fluid flows around;
• wherein the interior of the hollow member is straight along its entire length between the downstream termination thereof and the end of the hollow member that is in contact with fluid proximate to the diaphragm member;
• and
• wherein the passage reduces gradually in cross-section towards the downstream end of the stem along an entire length of the stem of the hollow member.
