Abstract
This invention relates to methods for identifying maize plants that having increased MRCV resistance. The methods use molecular markers to identify and to select plants with increased MRCV resistance. Maize plants generated by the methods of the invention are also a feature of the invention.
Claims9
A method for obtaining a maize plant that displays increased Mal de Rio Cuarto Virus (MRCV) resistance, the method comprising:
- screening genomic DNA from a progeny maize plant for presence of a genetic marker linked to MRCV resistance located on maize chromosome 2 between nucleotide position 9,962,933 and nucleotide position 17,797,205, wherein the genetic marker linked to MRCV resistance is selected from the group consisting of:
- an adenine (A) at nucleotide position 61 of SEQ ID NO:1,
- a thymidine (T) at nucleotide position 101 of SEQ ID NO:2,
- a cytosine (C) at nucleotide position 101 of SEQ ID NO:3,
- a guanosine (G) at nucleotide position 101 of SEQ ID NO:4,
- an A at nucleotide position 101 of SEQ ID NO:5,
- a C at nucleotide position 61 of SEQ ID NO:6,
- an A at nucleotide position 101 of SEQ ID NO:7,
- a T at nucleotide position 61 of SEQ ID NO:8, and
- a G at nucleotide position 61 of SEQ ID NO:9;
- and
- selecting the progeny maize plant if it comprises the genetic marker linked to MRCV resistance in its genomic DNA,
- wherein the progeny maize plant is produced by crossing a first parental MRCV resistant maize plant with a second parental maize plant, wherein the first parental maize plant comprises the genetic marker linked to MRCV resistance, and wherein the second parental maize plant does not comprise the genetic marker linked to MRCV resistance.
