Spray gun and components for spraying paints and other coatings

A spray gun for spraying paint, the spray gun comprising:

• a gun body defining a longitudinal spray axis;
• a spray valve disposed within the gun body, the spray valve configured to control spraying of paint by the spray gun;
• a trigger mounted on the gun body and configured to actuate the spray valve between an open state and a closed state, wherein the trigger comprises:
• an upper portion mounted to the spray gun;
• and
• a lower portion disposed on the upper portion and movable relative to the upper portion such that the trigger is extendable, wherein both of the upper portion and the lower portion are exposed to be engaged by fingers of a user to actuate the trigger when the trigger is extended to a lengthened state;
• wherein the lower portion of the trigger wraps around at least three sides of the upper portion to partially sheath the upper portion of the trigger such that more of the upper portion of the trigger becomes unsheathed and exposed as the lower portion of the trigger is moved downwards relative to the upper portion.

A spray gun for spraying paint, the spray gun comprising:

• a gun body defining a longitudinal spray axis;
• a spray valve disposed within the gun body, the spray valve configured to control spraying of paint by the spray gun;
• a trigger mounted on the gun body and configured to actuate the spray valve between an open state and a closed state, wherein the trigger comprises:
• an upper portion mounted to the spray gun;
• and
• a lower portion disposed on the upper portion and movable relative to the upper portion such that the trigger is extendable, wherein both of the upper portion and the lower portion are exposed to be engaged by fingers of a user to actuate the trigger when the trigger is extended to a lengthened state
• wherein one of the upper portion and the lower portion includes a plurality of indexes disposed along a length of the one of the upper portion and the lower portion, and the other one of the upper portion and the lower portion includes at least one stop configured to engage with the plurality of indexes to maintain the lower portion relative to the upper portion at indexed positions corresponding to a plurality of different lengths of the trigger.
