Abstract
Plants, seeds and tissue cultures of the hybrid rice HR170003, and methods for producing a rice plant by crossing a rice plant of hybrid rice HR170003 with itself or with another rice plant, such as a plant of another rice variety or rice hybrid, are disclosed.

Hybrid rice seed HR170003, wherein a representative sample of seed was deposited under ATCC Accession No. PTA-124255.
A method of introducing one or more desired traits into hybrid rice designated HR170003, wherein the method comprises:
- a) crossing a hybrid rice HR170003 plant, from which a representative sample of seed was deposited in the ATCC under the Budapest Treaty Accession No. PTA-124255, with a plant of another rice cultivar that comprises a desired trait or traits, to produce progeny plants, wherein the desired trait(s) are selected from the group consisting of male sterility, herbicide resistance, insect resistance, modified fatty acid metabolism, modified carbohydrate metabolism, and resistance to bacterial disease, fungal disease and viral disease;
- b) selecting one or more progeny plants that have the desired trait(s) to produce selected progeny plants;
- c) backcrossing the selected progeny plants with the HR170003 plants;
- d) selecting for backcross progeny plants that have the desired trait(s);
- and
- e) repeating steps (c) and (d) three or more times to produce selected fourth or higher backcross progeny plants that comprise the desired trait(s).
