Abstract
A method and apparatus for producing a biocide from a hypochlorite oxidant and an ammonium salt are provided. The method includes monitoring a control parameter to optimize the ratio between the hypochlorite oxidant and the ammonium salt. The control parameter may be oxidation-reduction potential, conductivity, induction or oxygen saturation.
Claims11
A method of producing a biocide, comprising:
- providing a solution of a hypochlorite oxidant having a concentration from about 1,000 to about 20,000 ppm;
- providing a solution of an ammonium salt having a concentration from about 15-50%;
- diluting said solution of an ammonium salt with a portion of said solution of a hypochlorite oxidant to form an ammonium salt dilution;
- and
- mixing the remainder of said solution of a hypochlorite oxidant with said ammonium salt dilution.
