Abstract
Quantum dot polymer composites for on-chip light emitting diode applications are described. In an example, a composite for on-chip light emitting diode application includes a polymer matrix, a plurality of quantum dots dispersed in the polymer matrix, and a base dispersed in the polymer matrix.
Claims30
A method of fabricating a composite for on-chip light emitting diode application, the method comprising:
- adding at least one base chemical compound to a plurality of quantum dots to form a mixture comprising at least a remainder portion of the at least one base chemical compound, wherein the at least one base chemical compound is selected from a group of base chemical compounds consisting of lithium hydroxide (LiOH), sodium hydroxide (NaOH), rubidium hydroxide (RbOH), cesium hydroxide (CsOH), magnesium hydroxide (Mg(OH)2), calcium hydroxide (Ca(OH)2), strontium hydroxide (Sr(OH)2), barium hydroxide (Ba(OH)2), tetramethylammonium hydroxide ((Me)4NOH), tetraethylammonium hydroxide ((Et)4NOH), tetrabutylammonium hydroxide ((Bu)4NOH)), lithium diisopropyl amide (LDA), sodium bis(trimethylsilyl)amide (sodium HMDS), potassium bis(trimethylsilyl)amide (potassium HMDS);
- adding the mixture to a polymer matrix;
- forming an insulator coating on each of the plurality of quantum dots;
- and
- treating the insulator coating with one of a dehydrogenative coupling catalyst and a reactive vinyl terminated orthosilicate compound.
A method of fabricating a composite for on-chip light emitting diode application, the method comprising:
- forming a mixture of a plurality of quantum dots and a first component of a two-part silicone formulation;
- heating the mixture;
- and
- subsequent to heating the mixture, adding the mixture to a second component of the two-part silicone formulation.
A method of fabricating a composite for on-chip light emitting diode application, the method comprising:
- forming a solution of a plurality of quantum dots in a first solvent;
- removing the first solvent and redissolving the plurality of quantum dots in a second, different, solvent;
- and
- subsequent to redissolving the plurality of quantum dots in the second solvent, dispersing the plurality of quantum dots in a polymer matrix.
