Abstract
Wireless-conferencing radios communicate directly with each other without a bases station using a multiple access protocol, such as Time Division Multiple Access (TDMA). Wireless-conferencing radios can be formed into groups and larger mesh networks.
Claims20
A radio system comprising:
- a first radio;
- a second radio;
- and
- a third radio, wherein:
- the first radio, the second radio, and the third radio are configured to communicate directly with each other in a wireless-conferencing group using a multiple access protocol;
- the multiple access protocol is a time division multiple access protocol;
- the time division multiple access protocol hops between a number of frequencies;
- the time division multiple access protocol comprises multiple frames of time;
- each frame, of the multiple frames of time, is subdivided into a plurality of slots;
- the plurality of slots comprise a first slot, a second slot, a third slot, and a fourth slot;
- the first radio is configured to transmit during the first slot;
- the second radio is configured to transmit during the second slot;
- the third radio is configured to transmit during the third slot;
- the first radio, the second radio, and the third radio are configured to alternate transmitting during the fourth slot;
- and
- the first radio, the second radio, and the third radio are scheduled equal time to transmit on each frequency of the number of frequencies.

A method comprising:
- configuring a first radio, a second radio, and a third radio to communicate directly with each other in a wireless-conferencing group, wherein:
- the wireless conferencing group uses a multiple access protocol;
- the multiple access protocol is a time division multiple access protocol;
- the time division multiple access protocol hops between a number of frequencies;
- the time division multiple access protocol comprises multiple frames of time;
- each frame, of the multiple frames of time, is subdivided into a plurality of slots;
- the plurality of slots comprise a first slot, a second slot, a third slot, and a fourth slot;
- configuring the first radio to transmit during the first slot;
- configuring the second radio to transmit during the second slot;
- configuring the third radio to transmit during the third slot;
- and
- scheduling the first radio, the second radio, and the third radio to alternate transmitting during the fourth slot so that the first radio, the second radio, and the third radio are scheduled equal time to transmit on each of the number of frequencies.

A first radio comprising:
- a transmitter;
- a receiver;
- and
- electronics configured to:
- communicate directly with a second radio and a third radio in a wireless-conferencing group using the transmitter and receiver, wherein:
- the wireless conferencing group uses a multiple access protocol;
- the multiple access protocol is a time division multiple access protocol;
- the time division multiple access protocol comprises multiple frames of time;
- each frame, of the multiple frames of time, is subdivided into a plurality of slots;
- the plurality of slots comprise a first slot, a second slot, a third slot, and a fourth slot;
- the first radio is configured to transmit during the first slot;
- assign the second radio to transmit during the second slot;
- assign the third radio to transmit during the third slot;
- and
- assign the second radio and the third radio to alternate transmitting during the fourth slot.
