Abstract
Described herein are systems and methods for telecommunications spectrum sharing between multiple heterogeneous users, which leverage a hybrid approach that includes both distributed spectrum sharing, spectrum-sensing, and use of geo-reference databases.
Claims20
A method for dynamically sharing a spectrum having a plurality of spectrum bands that may be allocated to one or more primary and secondary users of the spectrum, the method comprising:
- receiving a request for an assignment of at least one spectrum band for allocation to one or more secondary users of the spectrum;
- receiving at least one sensed data indicative of a radio condition at a location where the sensed data was obtained;
- updating a database based on the received sensed data, wherein the database is a data structure configured to store temporal data corresponding to spectrum usage by the one or more primary users;
- identifying at least one spectrum band that is available for allocation to the one or more secondary users of the spectrum, to thereby maintain interference to the one or more primary users below a predetermined threshold;
- allocating, based on the updated database, the at least one identified spectrum band to at least a subset of the secondary users of the spectrum;
- and
- revoking the allocation of the at least one identified spectrum band to the subset of the secondary users in response to determining that the interference to the one or more primary users exceeds the predetermined threshold.
A spectrum server for dynamically sharing a spectrum having a plurality of spectrum bands that may be allocated to one or more primary and secondary users of the spectrum, the spectrum server comprising:
- at least one memory storing instructions;
- and
- at least one processor executing the instructions to perform operations comprising:
- receiving a request for an assignment of at least one spectrum band for allocation to one or more secondary users of the spectrum;
- receiving at least one sensed data indicative of a radio condition at a location where the sensed data was obtained;
- updating a database based on the received sensed data, wherein the database is a data structure configured to store temporal data corresponding to spectrum usage by the one or more primary users;
- identifying at least one spectrum band that is available for allocation to the one or more secondary users of the spectrum, to thereby maintain interference to the one or more primary users below a predetermined threshold;
- allocating, based on the updated database, the at least one identified spectrum band to at least a subset of the secondary users of the spectrum;
- and
- revoking the allocation of the at least one identified spectrum band to the subset of the secondary users in response to determining that the interference to the one or more primary users exceeds the predetermined threshold.

- allocating, based on the updated database and one or more restrictions on use of the at least one identified spectrum band, the at least one identified spectrum band to at least a subset of the secondary users of the spectrum;
- and
- revoking the allocation of the at least one identified spectrum band to the subset of the secondary users in response to determining that the interference to the one or more primary users exceeds the predetermined threshold.
