Abstract
Disclosed in some examples are systems, machine-readable media, methods, and cellular wireless devices which implement a Listen Before Talk (LBT) access scheme for a device operating according to a cellular wireless protocol in an unlicensed channel. A cellular wireless device may utilize the cellular wireless protocol in the unlicensed channel after the LBT access scheme has determined that a channel (a defined range of frequencies) in the unlicensed channel is idle for a particular period of time.
Claims24
An apparatus for an Evolved Node B (eNodeB), the eNodeB configured to operate in both a licensed spectrum and an unlicensed spectrum and apply Listen-Before Talk (LBT) before performing a transmission, the apparatus comprising:
- memory;
- and
- processing circuitry, configured to:
- encode Physical Downlink Control Channel (PDCCH) data for transmission by transceiver circuitry, the PDCCH data configured to indicate scheduling of Physical Downlink Shared Channel (PDSCH) data on the unlicensed spectrum;
- configure the transceiver circuitry to sense a channel to be idle during slot durations of a predetermined duration through a determination that an average power detected for the slot durations is below a power level threshold, the channel being in the unlicensed spectrum;
- if the channel is sensed to be idle during the slot durations of the predetermined duration, the processing circuitry is further configured to:
- set a value to a random number between zero and a contention window (CW) and store the value in the memory;
- configure the transceiver circuitry to sense the channel for an additional slot duration when the value is greater than zero;
- and
- decrement the value, until the value reaches zero, for each additional slot duration when the channel is sensed to be idle;
- and
- encode the PDSCH data for transmission on the channel after the channel is sensed to be idle during the slot durations of the predetermined duration and after the value is zero.
A non-transitory computer-readable medium, having instructions stored thereon, which when performed by processing circuitry of an evolved Node B (eNodeB) cause following operations to be performed:
- wherein the eNodeB is to operate in both a licensed spectrum and an unlicensed spectrum and apply Listen-Before Talk (LBT) before performing a transmission;
- transmitting, by transceiver circuitry of the eNodeB, of Physical Downlink Control Channel (PDCCH) data configured to indicate scheduling of Physical Downlink Shared Channel (PDSCH) data on the unlicensed spectrum;
- sensing a channel, by the transceiver circuitry, to be idle during slot durations of a predetermined duration by determining if an average power detected for the slot durations is below a power level threshold, the channel being in the unlicensed spectrum;
- if the channel is sensed to be idle during the slot durations of the predetermined duration:
- setting, by the processing circuitry, a value to a random number between zero and a contention window (CW);
- sensing, by the transceiver circuitry, the channel for an additional slot duration when the value is greater than zero;
- and
- decrementing, by the processing circuitry, the value, until the value reaches zero, for each additional slot duration when the channel is sensed to be idle;
- and
- transmitting, by the transceiver circuitry, the PDSCH data for transmission on the channel after the channel is sensed to be idle during the slot durations of the predetermined duration and after the value is zero.
An apparatus for an Evolved Node-B (eNodeB), the eNodeB configured to operate in both a licensed spectrum and an unlicensed spectrum and apply Listen-Before Talk (LBT) before performing a transmission, the apparatus comprising:
- means for encoding Physical Downlink Control Channel (PDCCH) data configured to indicate scheduling of Physical Downlink Shared Channel (PDSCH) data on the unlicensed spectrum;
- means for sensing a channel to be idle during slot durations of a predetermined duration by determining if an average power detected for the slot durations is below a power level threshold, the channel being in the unlicensed spectrum;
- if the channel is sensed to be idle during the slot durations of the predetermined duration, the apparatus comprises:
- means for setting a value to a random number between zero and a contention window (CW) and storing the value in a memory;
- means for sensing the channel for an additional slot duration when the value is greater than zero;
- and
- means for decrementing the value, until the value reaches zero, for each additional slot duration when the channel is sensed to be idle;
- and
- means for the PDSCH data for transmission on the channel after the channel is sensed to be idle during the slot durations of the predetermined duration and after the value is zero.
