Creation of channel to support legacy video-on-demand systems

A method, comprising:

• in a broadcast provider system:
• receiving a playout schedule from a playout schedule source,
• wherein the playout schedule corresponds to a live video feed of a first channel, wherein the live video feed is broadcasted to at least one multichannel video program distributor (MVPD),
• wherein the playout schedule specifies a first time of transmission of a second channel and at least one scheduling rule, and
• wherein the at least one scheduling rule specifies a modification of content in the live video feed of the first channel;
• generating the second channel comprising at least a first video on demand (VOD) content asset based on a version of a second VOD content asset, wherein the second VOD content asset is transmitted to a plurality of MVPDs before transmission of the first VOD content asset to the plurality of MVPDs;
• and
• transmitting the second channel to the plurality of MVPDs at the first time specified in the received playout schedule.

A non-transitory computer-readable medium having stored thereon, computer executable instructions that when executed by a processor in a computer, cause the computer to execute instructions, the instructions comprising:

• in a television playout system provided in a broadcast provider system:
• receiving a playout schedule from a playout schedule source,
• wherein the playout schedule corresponds to a live video feed of a first channel, wherein the live video feed is broadcasted to at least one multichannel video program distributor (MVPD),
• wherein the playout schedule specifies a first time of transmission of a second channel and at least one scheduling rule, and
• wherein the at least one scheduling rule specifies a modification of content in the live video feed of the first channel;
• generating the second channel comprising at least a first video on demand (VOD) content asset based on a version of a second VOD content asset, wherein the second VOD content asset is transmitted to a plurality of MVPDs before transmission of the first VOD content asset to the plurality of MVPDs;
• and
• transmitting the second channel to the plurality of MVPDs at first time specified in the received playout schedule.

A system, comprising:

• one or more processors in a broadcast provider system, wherein the one or more processors are configured to:
• receive a playout schedule of a live video feed for a first channel, wherein the live video feed is distributed to at least one multichannel video program distributor (MVPD),
• wherein the playout schedule specifies a first time of transmission of at least one new channel and at least one scheduling rule for modification of content in the live video feed for the first channel, and content delivery time;
• modify the content in the live video feed of the first channel based on the at least one scheduling rule;
• generate the at least one new channel with at least a first video on demand (VOD) content asset based on a version of a second VOD content asset,
• wherein the second VOD content asset is transmitted to the at least one MVPD before transmission of the first VOD content asset to the at least one MVPD;
• encode the at least one new channel with triggers;
• multiplex the encoded at least one new channel with channel metadata;
• and
• distribute, at the content delivery time, the multiplexed encoded at least one new channel to the at least one MVPD via a network.

A method, comprising:

• in a broadcast provider system:
• receiving a playout schedule of a live video feed for a first channel, wherein the live video feed is distributed to at least one multichannel video program distributor (MVPD),
• wherein the playout schedule specifies a first time of transmission of at least one new channel and at least one scheduling rule for modification of content in the live video feed for the first channel, and content delivery time;
• modifying the content in the live video feed of the first channel based on the at least one scheduling rule;
• generating the at least one new channel with at least a first video on demand (VOD) content asset based on a version of a second VOD content asset, wherein the second VOD content asset is transmitted to the at least one MVPD before transmission of the first VOD content asset to the at least one MVPD;
• encoding the at least one new channel with triggers;
• multiplexing the encoded at least one new channel with channel metadata;
• and
• distributing, at the content delivery time, the multiplexed encoded at least one new channel to the at least one MVPD via a network.
