Abstract
A method of forming a recording head for use with a data storage medium in a data storage device. The method includes forming first and second writers of different target geometries. A first recording measurement is performed on one or more storage media using the first writer. A second recording measurement is performed on the one or more storage media using the second writer. Based on a comparison of the first and second recording measurements to a predetermined quantity, either the first writer or the second writer is selected to be operational in the data storage device.
Claims20
A method comprising:
- forming at least one recording head having first and second writers of different geometries, with one of the first or the second writer being operational to record user data on one or more data storage media in a data storage device, and the other one of the first or the second writer never being operational to store user data in the data storage device.
A method comprising:
- forming at least one recording head having first and second writers of different geometries, with one of the first or the second writer being electrically connected, by trace connections, to record user data on one or more data storage media in a data storage device, and the other one of the first or the second writer not connected by trace connections, thereby being non-operational in the data storage device.
A data storage device comprising:
- one or more data storage media;
- and
- at least one recording head having first and second writers of different geometries, with one of the first or the second writer being electrically connected, by trace connections, to record user data on one or more data storage media in a data storage device, and the other one of the first or the second writer not connected by trace connections, thereby being non-operational in the data storage device.
