Abstract
A method for detecting HIV infection in a mammal is disclosed. The method contains the steps of isolating exosomes from a urine sample of a mammal and detecting the presence of HIV-specific biomarker in said isolated exosomes. A method for diagnosing a mammal with an HIV-associated disease, in particular, HIV-associated nephropathy is also disclosed.
Claims8
A kit for detecting HIV proteins in urine exosomes, comprising:
- a centrifuge filter for isolating exosomes, having a pore size smaller than the size of exosomes, wherein said exosomes are 50-90 nm vesicles;
- at least one anti-HIV antibody directed against Nef, gp120, gp41, Rev, reverse transcriptase, Tat or Pol;
- and
- at least one HIV biomarker protein standard selected from the group consisting of Nef, gp120, gp41, Rev, reverse transcriptase, Tat and Pol.
