Abstract
Methods and arrangements for video coding are provided. In one exemplary embodiment, a method performed by a video decoder may include decoding an encoded video block based on a single index corresponding to the encoded video block and a predetermined reference picture list to obtain a decoded video block. Further, the index may represent a combination of a reference mode and one or more reference pictures associated with the predetermined reference picture list.
Claims17
A method performed by a video decoder, comprising:
- decoding an encoded video block, using one or more reference pictures and a reference mode that are jointly indicated by a certain index within a single list of indices;
- wherein each index within the single list of indices jointly indicates one of a plurality of reference modes and one or more reference pictures to be used for video decoding, with at least two different indices in the single list respectively indicating different reference modes to be used for decoding;
- wherein at least two different indices in the single list of indices respectively indicate a same reference mode but different one or more reference pictures to be used for decoding;
- and
- wherein each of the different reference modes represents either a different one of the one or more reference pictures used for prediction in the decoding or a different combination of multiple ones of the one or more reference pictures used for prediction in the decoding.
A video decoder, comprising:
- a memory;
- and
- a processor operationally coupled to the memory, wherein the processor and memory are configured to:
- decode an encoded video block, using one or more reference pictures and a reference mode that are jointly indicated by a certain index within a single list of indices;
- wherein each index within the single list of indices jointly indicates one of a plurality of reference modes and one or more reference pictures to be used for video decoding, with at least two different indices in the single list respectively indicating different reference modes to be used for decoding;
- wherein at least two different indices in the single list of indices respectively indicate a same reference mode but different one or more reference pictures to be used for decoding;
- and
- wherein each of the different reference modes represents either a different one of the one or more reference pictures used for prediction in the decoding, or a different combination of multiple ones of the one or more reference pictures used for prediction in the decoding.
A non-transitory computer-readable medium encoded with a computer program, the computer program comprising computer-executable instructions that when executed by a processor causes the processor to perform operations, wherein the operations are configured to:
- decode an encoded video block, using one or more reference pictures and a reference mode that are jointly indicated by a certain index within a single list of indices;
- wherein each index within the single list of indices jointly indicates one of a plurality of reference modes and one or more reference pictures to be used for video decoding, with at least two different indices in the single list respectively indicating different reference modes to be used for decoding;
- wherein at least two different indices in the single list of indices respectively indicate a same reference mode but different one or more reference pictures to be used for decoding;
- and
- wherein each of the different reference modes represents either a different one of the one or more reference pictures used for prediction in the decoding, or a different combination of multiple ones of the one or more reference pictures used for prediction in the decoding.
