Abstract
A system, article, and method to perform light source estimation for image processing includes measuring a compactness of the distribution of the image data to select a light source.
Claims25
A computer-implemented method of light source estimation for image processing, comprising:
- obtaining image data of at least one image;
- forming a plurality of separate data distributions comprising separately applying, to the image data, lens shading correction tables each of a different illuminant of a set of available illuminants;
- mapping the data distributions in a chromaticity space;
- measuring a compactness of individual ones of the data distributions on the chromaticity space;
- generating likelihoods that the individual data distributions are associated with a true illuminant of the image comprising using compactness measurements of the individual data distributions;
- and
- using the likelihoods to correct color on at least one image.

A computer-implemented system of light source estimation comprising:
- a display;
- at least one processor communicatively coupled to the display;
- at least one memory communicatively coupled to at least one processor and storing image data of at least one image of a video sequence or at least one still photograph forming an image;
- and
- at least one light estimation unit communicatively coupled to the processor, and to operate by:
- obtaining image data of at least one image captured by a camera;
- forming a plurality of separate data distributions comprising separately applying, to the image data, lens shading correction tables each of a different illuminant of a set of available illuminants;
- mapping the data distributions in a chromaticity space;
- measuring a compactness of individual ones of the data distributions on the chromaticity space;
- generating likelihoods that the individual data distributions are associated with a true illuminant of the image comprising using compactness measurements of the individual data distributions;
- and
- providing the likelihoods to correct color on at least one image.

At least one non-transitory computer readable medium comprising a plurality of instructions that in response to being executed on a computing device, causes the computing device to operate by:
- obtaining image data of at least one image;
- forming a plurality of separate data distributions comprising separately applying, to the image data, lens shading correction tables each of a different illuminant of a set of available illuminants;
- mapping the data distributions in a chromaticity space;
- measuring a compactness of individual ones of the data distributions on the chromaticity space;
- generating likelihoods that the individual data distributions are associated with a true illuminant of the image comprising using compactness measurements of the individual data distributions;
- and
- using the likelihoods to correct color on at least one image.
