Abstract
In an approach to create a rule hierarchy model, a computer receives from a user a set of rules and an association between each rule in the set of rules and a concept of the plurality of concepts in a concept hierarchy. The computer receives set of rules is stored separately from the concept hierarchy. The computer determines a rule hierarchy where a rule of the set of rules is associated with one or more concepts. Furthermore, the computer creates a rule hierarchy model based on the concept hierarchy and the rule hierarchy wherein grouping related rules in a common structure provides efficient management that facilitates rule authoring, browsing, and extraction.
Claims19
A method, the method comprising:
- receiving, by one or more computer processors, from a user a set of rules and a plurality of concepts in a concept hierarchy wherein the set of rules is stored separately from the concept hierarchy;
- receiving, by one or more computer processors, an association between each rule in the set of rules and one or more concepts of the plurality of concepts in the concept hierarchy to determine an initial rule hierarchy model where each rule of the set of rules is associated with one or more concepts;
- performing, by one or more computer processors, a first optimization of the initial rule hierarchy model by eliminating one or more rules in the initial rule hierarchy model with rule equivalence, wherein the first optimization occurs automatically during a compilation process;
- performing, by one or more computer processors, a second optimization after the first optimization on the initial rule hierarchy model wherein the second optimization consolidates one or more concepts in the concept hierarchy according to a set of second optimization steps, wherein the second optimization occurs automatically during the compilation process;
- and
- creating, by one or more computer processors, a rule hierarchy model based on the initial rule hierarchy model, the first optimization on the initial rule hierarchy model, and the second optimization after the first optimization of the initial rule hierarchy.
A computer program product, the computer program product comprising:
- one or more computer readable storage media and program instructions stored on the one or more computer readable storage media, the program instructions executable by a processor, the program instructions comprising:
- program instructions to receive from a user a set of rules and a plurality of concepts in a concept hierarchy wherein the set of rules is stored separately from the concept hierarchy;
- program instructions to receive an association between each rule in the set of rules and one or more concepts of the plurality of concepts in the concept hierarchy to determine an initial rule hierarchy model where each rule of the set of rules is associated with one or more concepts;
- program instructions to perform a first optimization of the initial rule hierarchy model by eliminating one or more rules in the initial rule hierarchy model with rule equivalence, wherein the first optimization occurs automatically during a compilation process;
- program instructions to perform a second optimization after the first optimization on the initial rule hierarchy model wherein the second optimization consolidates one or more concepts in the concept hierarchy according to a set of second optimization steps, wherein the second optimization occurs automatically during the compilation process;
- and
- program instructions to create a rule hierarchy model based on the initial rule hierarchy model, the first optimization on the initial rule hierarchy model, and the second optimization after the first optimization of the initial rule hierarchy.
A computer system, the computer system comprising:
- one or more computer processors;
- one or more computer readable storage media;
- program instructions stored on the one or more computer readable storage media for execution by at least one of the one or more processors, the program instructions comprising:
- program instructions to receive from a user a set of rules and a plurality of concepts in a concept hierarchy wherein the set of rules is stored separately from the concept hierarchy;
- program instructions to receive an association between each rule in the set of rules and one or more concepts of the plurality of concepts in the concept hierarchy to determine an initial rule hierarchy model where each rule of the set of rules is associated with one or more concepts;
- program instructions to perform a first optimization of the initial rule hierarchy model by eliminating one or more rules in the initial rule hierarchy model with rule equivalence, wherein the first optimization occurs automatically during a compilation process;
- program instructions to perform a second optimization after the first optimization on the initial rule hierarchy model wherein the second optimization consolidates one or more concepts in the concept hierarchy according to a set of second optimization steps, wherein the second optimization occurs automatically during the compilation process;
- and
- program instructions to create a rule hierarchy model based on the initial rule hierarchy model, the first optimization on the initial rule hierarchy model, and the second optimization after the first optimization of the initial rule hierarchy model.
