Technologies for protecting data in an asymmetric storage volume

A method for protecting data in an asymmetric volume (ASV) comprising at least one first storage device arrayed with a second storage device into a single logical volume, the method comprising:

• in response to a user input identifying targeted data stored on the ASV for encrypted storage:
• rewriting, when a complete copy of the targeted data is not stored on the first storage device, at least a portion of the targeted data that is stored on the second storage device to the first storage device, such that a complete copy of the targeted data is stored in the first storage device;
• and
• executing, when a complete copy of the targeted data is stored on the first storage device, at least one security operation to obfuscate or erase any portion of the targeted data from the second storage device;
• wherein said first storage device supports device-based encryption, and said second storage device does not support device-based encryption.

A computer readable storage medium comprising instructions which when executed by a processor of a system cause the performance of storage control operations comprising:

• in response to a user input identifying targeted data stored one an asymmetric volume (ASV) for encrypted storage, the ASV comprising at least one first storage device arrayed with a second storage device into a single logical volume:
• rewriting, when a complete copy of the targeted data is not stored on the first storage device, at least a portion of the targeted data that is stored on the second storage device to the first storage device, such that a complete copy of the targeted data is stored in the first storage device;
• and
• executing, when a complete copy of the targeted data is stored on the first storage device, at least one security operation to obfuscate or erase any portion of the targeted data from the second storage device;
• wherein said first storage device support device-based encryption, and said second storage device does not support device-based encryption.
