Abstract
Various examples of the present technology provide a cluster-architecture to support a scalable pooled-NVMe storage box that can be shared among a scalable number of nodes. The scalable pooled-NVMe storage box comprises NVMe drives, one or more switches and one or more switch ports. The number of NVMe drives in the scalable scalable-pooled-NVMe storage box can be scaled up or down based upon a number of nodes that need to share the scalable pooled-NVMe storage box.
Claims20
A scalable storage box, comprising:
- a first PCI Express (PCIe) switch;
- a first switch port connected to the first PCIe switch;
- a first device port;
- and
- a first plurality of devices, each device of the first plurality of devices comprising a first port and a second port, wherein first ports of the first plurality of devices are connected to a first plurality of nodes via the first PCIe switch, wherein second ports of the first plurality of devices are connected to the first device port.
A computer-implemented method for supporting a scalable storage box that comprises a first PCI Express (PCIe) switch, a first switch port connected to the first PCIe switch, a first device port and a first plurality of devices, each device of the first plurality of devices comprising a first port and a second port, comprising:
- connecting first ports of the first plurality of devices to the first PCIe switch;
- connecting second ports of the first plurality of devices to the first device port;
- and
- connecting the first plurality of devices to a first plurality of nodes via the first PCIe switch.
A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium storing instructions for supporting a scalable storage box that comprises a first PCI Express (PCIe) switch, a first switch port connected to the first PCIe switch, a first device port and a first plurality of devices, each device of the first plurality of devices comprising a first port and a second port, that, when executed by at least one processor of a computing system, cause the computing system to:
- connect first ports of the first plurality of devices to the first PCIe switch;
- connect second ports of the first plurality of devices to the first device port, and connect the first plurality of devices to be connected to a first plurality of nodes via the first PCIe switch.
