Abstract
An electrically conductive hose cutting clip has at least one end tab that is shaped to provide a cutting edge for penetration of the inner layer(s) of a multiple layer fluid conveyance hose when it is clipped onto a fluid connector and the hose is installed on the fluid connector by forcing it onto the connector. The cutting action by the cutting clip provides for a relatively low resistance electrical connection between an electrically conductive layer of the hose and the fluid connector. This can be used to provide a signal path from a sensing element on or in the hose to a system electronic component.
Claims16
A fluid coupling, comprising:
- a cutting clip including an annular clip body and at least one cutting end tab extending outwardly from the clip body;
- wherein the at least one cutting end tab extends radially away from the clip body and a body section of the fluid coupling on which the clip body is arranged a sufficient extent to penetrate at least an inner layer of an installed hose and contact a radially outer conductive layer of the hose to define an electrical path between the conductive layer of the hose and the body section;
- and
- wherein the clip body is spring loaded and selectively securable around a circumference of the body section.
A fluid coupling, comprising:
- a coupling body including an elongated nipple for receiving a fluid conveyance passageway, the coupling body defining a central passage extending along an axis;
- a cutting clip disposed on the coupling body, the cutting clip including at least one cutting end tab extending outwardly from the cutting clip;
- wherein the at least one cutting end tab extends radially away from the coupling body a sufficient extent to penetrate through the fluid conveyance passageway and contact a radially outer conductive element to define an electrical path between the conductive element and the coupling body;
- wherein the cutting clip further includes an annular clip body extending at least partially around a circumference of the coupling body and the at least one cutting end tab extends outwardly from the clip body;
- and
- wherein the clip body is spring loaded and radially adjustable to selectively engage around the circumference of the coupling body, and wherein the clip body extends continuously from the at least one cutting end tab to a free end of the clip body spaced circumferentially from the at least one cutting end tab.
A fluid coupling, comprising:
- a hose having a central fluid passage and including an outer layer, a radially inner layer, and at least one conductive layer disposed between the outer layer and the inner layer;
- a coupling body defining a central passage and including a hose nipple on which the hose is installable;
- and
- a cutting clip attached to the coupling body, the cutting clip including an annular clip body and at least one cutting end tab extending outwardly from the clip body, wherein the clip body extends continuously in a circumferential direction from the at least one cutting end tab to a free end spaced circumferentially from the at least one cutting end tab, and the clip body terminating at a circumferential gap defined between the at least one cutting end tab and the free end;
- wherein the at least one cutting end tab penetrates through the inner layer and contacts the at least one conductive layer of the hose to define an electrical path between the at least one conductive layer and the coupling body when the hose is installed on the hose nipple.
