Hockey pucks with enhanced ability to slide on ice and non-ice surfaces

A hockey puck for use on ice and non-ice surfaces comprising:

• a shell comprising an upper shell member and a lower shell member coupled to the upper shell member to define a central shaft and a cavity enclosed by the shell and surrounding the central shaft;
• a ballast member disposed in the cavity such that at least a portion of the ballast member is translatable relative to the shell, at least one dimension of the ballast member spanning a majority of a corresponding dimension of the cavity;
• and a resilient material disposed in the cavity and configured to resist translation of the ballast member in at least one direction relative to the shell;
• wherein the central shaft and the shell are each cylindrical and have a center point that lies on the same longitudinal axis.

A hockey puck for use on ice and non-ice surfaces comprising:

• a shell comprising an upper shell member and a lower shell member coupled to the upper shell member to define a central shaft and a cavity, a portion of the central shaft being equidistant from an outer perimeter of the shell;
• a ballast member disposed within the cavity and surrounding the central shaft such that at least a portion of the ballast member is translatable relative to the shell;
• and
• a single-piece, cylindrical outer housing substantially surrounding the shell, the outer housing having a substantially circular cross-section.
