Abstract
A device that uses an anatomic landmark or fiduciary point to establish a point of origin for device orientation in space is provided. The device controls the direction and depth of delivery of a needle, wire, trocar or cannula utilized for diagnostic or therapeutic intervention. The device guides the percutaneous delivery of a needle, wire, trocar or cannula to a target spatial location on or within tissue.
Claims26
A device that guides the percutaneous delivery of a medical device to a target spatial location on or within tissue, the device comprising:
- a circular positioning ring having at least one vertical receiving channel and having a lower horizontal receiving channel operably coupled to each said vertical receiving channel;
- a rotational element including a cap and including at least one flange matingly received by said vertical receiving channel and operably engaged with said lower horizontal receiving channel, said vertical receiving channel and said lower horizontal receiving channel meeting at an intersection at which said at least one flange is receivable in each of the said vertical receiving channel and said lower horizontal receiving channel;
- a directional element mated with said cap of said rotational element, said directional element thereby operably coupled to said circular positioning ring;
- and
- a coupling mechanism including:
- a base portion circumscribed by the circular positioning ring;
- and
- a shaft having first and second ends, said first end operably coupled to said base portion and said second end mated with said cap of said rotational element,
- wherein a rotational force applied to said rotational element will cause said at least one flange to rotate in said lower horizontal receiving channel when said at least one flange is positioned at the intersection or in said lower horizontal receiving channel.
