Beverage machine using pods that contain whole brewing elements

A container comprising:

• an upper surface;
• a lower surface;
• a sidewall coupling the upper surface to the lower surface such that the upper surface, the lower surface and sidewall form a cavity;
• a brewable substance contained within the cavity formed by the upper surface, lower surface, and sidewall;
• a failure mechanism positioned around a perimeter of the sidewall between the upper surface and the lower surface and segmenting the sidewall into an upper portion and a lower portion, the failure mechanism in a closed state and actuatable to an open state:
• the closed state coupling the upper portion and the lower portion, and
• the open state to decouple the upper portion and the lower portion when actuated such that the substance exits the container, and
• wherein the failure mechanism includes a partial perforation of the sidewall such that the sidewall breaks along the partial perforation when actuated between the closed state and open state.
