Abstract
An optical fiber cable including an optical fiber ribbon in a pipe, wherein the ribbon includes at least two optical fibers arranged side by side, and wherein at least two of the optical fibers are bonded intermittently along a length of the fibers.
Claims22
A trunk cable, the trunk cable comprising:
- a central strength member;
- a plurality of inner pipes arranged in a layer surrounding and in contact with the central strength member, each of the plurality of inner pipes further in contact with at least one neighboring inner pipe of the plurality of inner pipes;
- a plurality of optical fiber ribbons, each of the plurality of optical fiber ribbons disposed within one of the plurality of inner pipes;
- each of the plurality of optical fiber ribbons comprising a plurality of optical fibers arranged side-by-side and bonded intermittently along a length of the fibers;
- and
- an outer pipe surrounding and directly contacting the plurality of inner pipes.

A trunk cable, the trunk cable comprising:
- a central strength member formed from a fiber reinforced polymer material;
- a plurality of inner pipes arranged in a layer surrounding and in contact with the central strength member, each of the plurality of inner pipes further in contact with at least one neighboring inner pipe of the plurality of inner pipes, each of the plurality of inner pipes formed from a thermoplastic and having a diameter of less than or equal to 4.8 millimeters;
- a plurality of optical fiber ribbons, each of the plurality of optical fiber ribbons disposed within one of the plurality of inner pipes, each of the plurality of optical fiber ribbons comprising a plurality of optical fibers arranged side-by-side and bonded intermittently along a length of the fibers;
- and
- an outer pipe surrounding and directly contacting the plurality of inner pipes;
- the outer pipe formed from a thermoplastic.
