Abstract
Systems and methods for identifying and locating target objects based on echo signature characteristics are disclosed. According to an aspect, a system includes a transmitter configured to transmit one or more mechanical waves to a target object for echo of the one or more mechanical waves by the target at a predetermined signature characteristic. The system also includes a detector configured to detect the echo. Further, the system includes a computing device configured to identify the predetermined signature characteristic of the detected echo for locating the target object.
Claims20
A target object comprising:
- a housing defining an interior and configured to insulate the interior from pressure changes external to the housing;
- and
- an agent positioned within the interior to generate an echo in response to receipt of at least one mechanical wave,
- wherein the agent comprises gas-filled microbubbles that when exposed to a mechanical wave, resonate at one or more different resonance frequencies, where the combination of the resonance frequencies gives the echo reflected by the target object a unique and predetermined acoustic signature for use in differentiating the target object from other objects, and wherein the intensity of an echo reflected by the agent is larger than an intensity of an echo reflected by the housing.
