Abstract
The invention relates to a combination of a pyrimidine derivative and a fatty acid source for use in the treatment of constipation, in particular in the treatment of constipation in patients suffering from GI disorders, neurological disorders, or psychiatric disorders. Advantageously, the combination comprises one or more vitamins or fibres.

A method for the treatment of constipation comprising administering a combination of a pyrimidine derivative and at least one polyunsaturated fatty acid having 18-24 carbon atoms selected from the group consisting of docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) and eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) to an individual in need of such treatment, wherein the daily dosage of DHA plus EPA administered via the combination is in the range of 1000 mg to 5000 mg.
A method for monitoring the treatment of constipation comprising administering a combination of a pyrimidine derivative and a polyunsaturated fatty acid having 18-24 carbon atoms, wherein the polyunsaturated fatty acid comprises at least one polyunsaturated fatty acid selected from the group consisting of docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) and eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), and wherein the daily dosage of DHA plus EPA administered via the combination is in the range of 1000 mg to 5000 mg, and measuring the level of alpha-synuclein aggregates in the colon.
