Abstract
The present invention relates to compositions and methods for identifying, selecting and/or producing soybean plants having tolerance to soybean stem termination.
Claims11
A method of producing a soybean plant having increased resistance to stem termination, the method comprising the steps of:
- a) isolating a nucleic acid from a soybean plant part;
- b) detecting in the nucleic acid of a) a molecular marker within a soy chromosomal interval corresponding to soybean chromosome 19 between and including physical map positions 43,125,672 to 45,473,178, wherein said chromosomal interval comprises at least one of the following alleles:
- an A at position 207 of SEQ ID NO:
- 1, a G at position 210 of SEQ ID NO:
- 2, a G at position 365 of SEQ ID NO:
- 3, an A at position 61 of SEQ ID NO:
- 4, an A at position 251 of SEQ ID NO:
- 5, and a C at position 335 of SEQ ID NO:
- 6 and, wherein said allele is associated with increased stem termination resistance;
- c) selecting a first soybean plant on the basis of the presence of said molecular marker of b);
- d) crossing the soybean plant of c) with a second soybean plant not comprising the molecular marker of b);
- and
- e) producing a progeny plant from the cross of d), thereby producing a soybean plant having increased resistance to stem termination,
- wherein the progeny plant comprises the molecular marker and at least one of the alleles in b), and
- wherein the either first or second soybean plant is an elite soybean plant.
