Abstract
A wireless cellular telephone with an audio codec for converting digital audio signals to analog audio signals. The audio codec comprises two digital audio bus interfaces for coupling to respective digital audio buses, and a digital-only signal path between the two digital audio bus interfaces, such that no analog processing of the audio signals occurs in the digital-only signal path.
Claims16
A wireless cellular telephone comprising:
- an audio codec;
- a first digital audio bus coupled to the audio codec for carrying first digital audio signals between the audio codec and a first circuit, the first digital audio bus having a first data line;
- a second digital audio bus coupled to the audio codec for carrying second digital audio signals between the audio codec and a second circuit, the second digital audio bus having a second data line;
- and
- a third digital audio bus coupled to the audio codec for carrying third digital audio signals between the audio codec and a third circuit, the third digital audio bus having a third data line, wherein the first and third digital audio buses share a clock line,
- the first data line not being shared with either of the second and third digital audio buses,
- the second data line not being shared with either of the first and third digital audio buses,
- the third data line not being shared with either of the first and second digital audio buses, and
- the audio codec comprising a digital signal mixer operable to mix a digital audio signal received over the first digital audio bus with a digital audio signal received over the second digital audio bus and output the resulting mixed digital audio signal over one of the first, second and third digital audio buses.
A method of operating a wireless cellular telephone, said wireless cellular telephone comprising an audio codec for converting digital audio signals to analog audio signals;
- wherein said method comprises:
- carrying first digital audio signals between the audio codec and a first circuit on a first digital audio bus coupled to the audio codec, the first digital audio bus having a first data line;
- carrying second digital audio signals between the audio codec and a second circuit on a second digital audio bus coupled to the audio codec, the second digital audio bus having a second data line;
- carrying third digital audio signals between the audio codec and a third circuit on a third digital audio bus coupled to the audio codec, the third digital audio bus having a third data line, and
- carrying digital audio signals on the first and third digital audio buses synchronously using a common clock signal,
- the first data line not being shared with either of the second and third digital audio buses,
- the second data line not being shared with either of the first and third digital audio buses,
- the third data line not being shared with either of the first and second digital audio buses, and
- wherein the method further comprises:
- transmitting a first digital audio signal from the first circuit to the audio codec over the first digital audio bus;
- transmitting a second digital audio signal from the second circuit to the audio codec over the second digital audio bus;
- mixing the first and second digital audio signals digitally in the audio codec;
- and
- outputting the resulting mixed digital audio signal over one of the first, second and third digital audio buses.
A wireless cellular telephone comprising:
- an audio codec;
- a first digital audio bus coupled to a first digital audio interface of the audio codec, for carrying first digital audio signals between the audio codec and a first circuit, the first digital audio bus having a first data line;
- a second digital audio bus coupled to a second digital audio interface of the audio codec, for carrying second digital audio signals between the audio codec and a second circuit, the second digital audio bus having a second data line;
- and
- a third digital audio bus coupled to a third digital audio interface of the audio codec, for carrying third digital audio signals between the audio codec and a third circuit, the third digital audio bus having a third data line, wherein the first and third digital audio buses share a clock line,
- the first data line not being shared with either of the second and third digital audio buses,
- the second data line not being shared with either of the first and third digital audio buses,
- the third data line not being shared with either of the first and second digital audio buses, and
- the audio codec comprising a digital signal mixer operable to mix a first digital audio signal received from the first circuit over the first digital audio bus with a second digital audio signal received from the second circuit over the second digital audio bus and output the resulting mixed digital audio signal over one of the first, second and third digital audio buses.
