- G01N 33/74: involving hormones {or other non-cytokine intercellular protein regulatory factors such as growth factors, including receptors to hormones and growth factors}
- G01N 2333/62: Insulins
- C12Q: MEASURING OR TESTING PROCESSES INVOLVING ENZYMES, NUCLEIC ACIDS OR MICROORGANISMS (immunoassay G01N33/53); COMPOSITIONS OR TEST PAPERS THEREFOR; PROCESSES OF PREPARING SUCH COMPOSITIONS; CONDITION-RESPONSIVE CONTROL IN MICROBIOLOGICAL OR ENZYMOLOGICAL PROCESSES
- G01N: INVESTIGATING OR ANALYSING MATERIALS BY DETERMINING THEIR CHEMICAL OR PHYSICAL PROPERTIES (measuring or testing apparatus or processes other than immunoassay, involving enzymes or microorganisms C12M, C12Q)

## Abstract

Described herein are glucose and insulin sensors. The sensors are composed of host cells with DNA specifically designed to produce fluorescence when the cells come into contact with glucose and/or insulin in the sample. Once the fluorescence has been quantified, it can be correlated with the amount of glucose and/or insulin present in the sample.

## Claims

### Claim 1

A host cell comprising a DNA construct comprising (a) a gene that expresses an alcohol dehydrogenase 1 (ADH1) promoter having at least 95% homology to SEQ ID NOS 1 or 30-32, (b) a gene that expresses snf3 protein having at least 95% homology to SEQ ID NOS 2 or 20-29, and (c) a ribosomal switch.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The host cell of claim 1, wherein the host cell comprises yeast or E. coli.

### Claim 3 (depends on 1)

The host cell of claim 1, wherein the DNA construct comprises a vector.

### Claim 4 (depends on 3)

The host cell of claim 3, wherein the vector is pWLNEO, pSV2CAT, pOG44, PXT1, pSG, pSVK3, pBSK, pBR322, pYES, PBSKII, or a pUC vector.

### Claim 5 (depends on 1)

The host cell of claim 1, wherein the DNA construct comprises a plasmid.

### Claim 6 (depends on 1)

The host cell of claim 1, wherein the gene that expresses the ADH1 promoter has at least 95% homology to SEQ ID NO 1, the gene that expresses snf3 protein has at least 95% homology to SEQ ID NO 2, and ribosomal switch.

### Claim 7

A host cell comprising a DNA construct comprising (a) a gene that expresses an alcohol dehydrogenase 1 (ADH1) promoter having at least 95% homology to SEQ ID NOS 1 or 30-32 and (b) a gene that expresses snf3 protein having at least 95% homology to SEQ ID NOS 2 or 20-29, wherein the construct comprises a vector, wherein the vector is pWLNEO, pSV2CAT, pOG44, PXT1, pSG, pSVK3, pBSK, pBR322, pYES, PBSKII, or a pUC vector.

### Claim 8 (depends on 7)

The host cell of claim 7, wherein the DNA construct further comprises a ribosomal switch.

### Claim 9 (depends on 7)

The host cell of claim 7, wherein the host cell comprises yeast or E. coli.

### Claim 10 (depends on 7)

The host cell of claim 7, wherein the gene that expresses the ADH1 promoter has at least 95% homology to SEQ ID NO 1, the gene that expresses snf3 protein has at least 95% homology to SEQ ID NO 2, and ribosomal switch.
