## Abstract

A long length imaging system having a host processor, an x-ray source, and a plurality of radiographic detectors is configured to simultaneously capture a radiographic image of a portion of a subject exposed by the x-ray source, and to transmit the partial images to the host processor whereby the partial images are combined into a long length image.

## Claims

### Claim 1

A method of capturing a long length radiographic image of a subject, the method comprising:
arranging a plurality of radiographic detectors in a partially overlapping arrangement, wherein the plurality of radiographic detectors each include an imaging array layer, and wherein the imaging array layer in each of the plurality of radiographic detectors overlap, or are overlapped by, another imaging array layer in another radiographic detector such that a portion of the imaging array layer in each of the plurality of radiographic detectors is in front of, or behind, a portion of an imaging array layer in another radiographic detector with respect to a position of an x-ray source;
receiving a ready signal from one or more of the plurality of radiographic detectors at a host system;
activating the x-ray source using an activation signal transmitted by the host system in response to the ready signal;
exposing a subject to x-rays from the activated x-ray source;
simultaneously capturing a radiographic image of a different portion of the subject in each of the plurality of radiographic detectors; and
receiving the plurality of captured radiographic images of the different portions of the subject at the host system; and
aligning and digitally stitching together the plurality of captured radiographic images of the different portions of the subject at the host system to form the long length radiographic image of the subject.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, further comprising wirelessly transmitting the ready signal by one or more of the plurality of radiographic detectors, wherein the step of receiving a ready signal includes wirelessly receiving the ready signal.

### Claim 3 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein the step of arranging includes rolling a transport apparatus having secured thereto at least one of the plurality of radiographic detectors.

### Claim 4 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, further comprising exposing the plurality of radiographic detectors to x-rays and capturing a gain map in an overlapped radiographic detector, and correcting a radiographic image of a portion of the subject captured by the overlapped radiographic detector using the captured gain map.

### Claim 5 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, further comprising:
translating the x-ray source;
activating the x-ray source at multiple different positions of the x-ray source during the step of translating; and
simultaneously capturing a radiographic image of a different portion of the subject in each of the plurality of radiographic detectors at each of the multiple different positions of the x-ray source during the step of translating.

### Claim 6 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, further comprising:
positioning a radiopaque marker in a path of the x-rays from the activated x-ray source; and
capturing an image of the radiopaque marker in each of two of the radiographic detectors together with the corresponding captured radiographic image of the portion of the subject,
wherein the step of aligning includes aligning the two captured images of the radiopaque marker.

### Claim 7 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, further comprising:
positioning a radiopaque marker in a path of the x-rays from the activated x-ray source;
capturing an image of the radiopaque marker in each of two of the radiographic detectors; and
identifying a row of an imaging array where the image of the radiopaque marker appears in each of said two of the radiographic detectors,
wherein the step of aligning includes aligning the identified rows in each of said two of the radiographic detectors.

### Claim 8 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, further comprising:
positioning a first radiopaque marker and a second radiopaque marker separated by a known distance in a path of the x-rays from the activated x-ray source;
capturing an image of the first radiopaque marker in a first one of the plurality of radiographic detectors; and
capturing an image of the second radiopaque marker in a second one of the plurality of radiographic detectors,
wherein the step of aligning includes aligning the corresponding captured radiographic images of the different portions of the subject according to the known distance.

### Claim 9 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, further comprising:
positioning a first radiopaque marker and a second radiopaque marker separated by a known distance in a path of an x-ray beam from the x-ray source;
capturing an image of the first radiopaque marker in a first one of the plurality of radiographic detectors; and
capturing an image of the second radiopaque marker in a second one of the plurality of radiographic detectors,
wherein the step of aligning includes aligning the captured radiographic images in the first and second ones of the plurality of detectors according to the known distance.

### Claim 10 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, further comprising:
positioning a radiopaque marker in a path of an x-ray beam from the x-ray source; and
capturing an image of the radiopaque marker in each of two of the plurality of radiographic detectors,
wherein the step of aligning includes aligning the two captured images of the radiopaque marker.
